How Does Vitamin B12 Impact Numbness and Tingling

Dr. Diane Mueller explains how B12 and other B vitamin deficiencies damage myelin and cause numbness and tingling by impairing nerve signals. Supplementation only works if you actually have a deficiency, which she recommends testing for via organic acid testing.

Hey, everybody. Dr. Diane, your chronic illness expert here today talking about numbness and tingling. It's all things numbness and tingling this month. If you're here and you want to get more information like this, please do subscribe to the channel to make sure you get all of the new material on this topic. We are releasing this month. Today, we're talking about B12, and we're talking about how B12, what is happening where it can actually lead to numbness. And we're going to go beyond B12. So our nerves, which, when our nerves are not working, when our nerves are inflamed. Right. That can contribute and cause numbness and tingling. We've been saying that all month. Our nerves actually fire impulses in part based upon how strong the myelin is. Myelin is this, like, sheath that covers the nerves and allows for that nerve signal to travel very fluidly. Good myelin, good sheath means numbness and pain. Numbness and tingling are not present. Right. So it really helps with that nervous system conduction that we make sure that we're sending the right signal to our tissues. How does this relate to B12, where there's a few nutrients that are needed in order to make the myelin really strong? B12 is one of them. B12 gets the biggest reputation, but other nutrients are in play. And in fact, B6, B2, also known as riboflavin and folate, are all part of the B12 family package that really is needed to make that healthy myelin for nerve conduction. So really, deficiencies in any of these B vitamins can lead to things like numbness and tingling. Now, does this mean that these nutrients are going to solve the problem for everybody? No. I really get annoyed when people read these articles online and think like, oh, this is going to be the supplement that solves everything. It's only going to solve things if you have deficiencies in these nutrients. If you don't have deficiencies in these nutrients, it's not going to be a B12, a folate, a B2 or a B6 problem. Right. It's going to be something else. So essentially, you want to consider these as being possibilities, but if they don't work, it's probably because you're not deficient in them to begin with. So always, you know, talk to your doctor. Remember, this is just education. I can tell you that it's generally pretty safe for most people to try a B complex. Again, it's not medical advice, so make sure you're running this by your doctor so you can, you know, you can run this by your doctor and see if it's safe in order for you to do. And at the same time, another thing you can do to really get these tested well is get an organic acid test. I'm going to put the direct to consumer link to my lab testing store where you can get your lab test done for you. And so essentially, if you go to that, that link, look for the organic acid test and that will take you to where you need to go as far as getting those micronutrient levels. The organic acid test is going to give you levels and it's going to be much accurate. A lot of the blood levels are telling us what's going on inside the blood, but it's not telling us what is going on inside the cells. And when it really depends, it really comes down to nutrient status. You want to see what is going on inside the cell. So it's very important. So make sure you check that out. I'll put that in the show notes for you as well. So this is our lesson on B12. Make sure you come to my masterclass. We're talking about all things numbness and tingling. It's free. You can bring your labs, you can bring anything you want. We can put you in the hot seat, get your questions answered, get you started on next steps to get well and all of those things. So I hope to see you there and please, please, please spread this around to anybody that you think could benefit from this information. I will talk to.
