How to Strengthen Your Immune System to Prevent Lyme Disease

Dr. Diane Mueller explains that supplements help, but the real defense against Lyme disease is your own immune system. Your gut makes up 70% of it. Feed your microbiome with prebiotics and get tested for hidden problems like SIBO.

Doctor Diane, your chronic illness expert here today. We're talking about what supplements help your immune system the best in order to fight and prevent chronic diseases such as Lyme disease, mold illness, and more. Now, here's the big thing. We can talk about things that you've heard about, vitamin C and echinacea, other herbs you may or may not have heard about, such as Oregon grape. We can talk about lime herbs like red roots like crypto lepus, on and on and on and on. And those all have benefits. But here's the big kicker. The number one thing that actually is going to help with the fighting the prevention of things like Lyme disease is actually going to help. It's actually going to make your immune system stronger. That's what we're looking to do. We're looking to raise your own body's defenses, right? So think about this like, you know, like a superhero with all of this magic power, and he has this great sword to go out and fight things, but then the sword, he doesn't have the strength to pull it out of his body. That is useless. So we can look at things like vitamin C, like some of these herbs, all of those things like the sword. But if we don't have that immune system functioning to actually wield the sword, it's not going to do anything. So what do we do? Well, we understand where the immune system comes from. So about 10% of the immune system comes from the microbiome that is all over our body, in our gut, in our genitals, on our skin, in our sinuses, and more. Right. So we want to make sure that we are feeding our microbiome food that it likes, known as prebiotics. We also want to make sure that we are working with stress and other things that could cause our microbiome to not work as properly. In addition to that, we want to make sure that we are working with our gut because our gut is 70% of our immune system. There is a statistic in functional medicine that says 50% of people have a problem in their gut without a symptom. That means that 50% of people have a problem in their gut, leading to probably something like their immune system not functioning as well, but they don't have a symptom like constipation or diarrhea or gas and bloating. And when they don't have a symptom, that essentially means they do not have an solution. They can't get to that immune system. They are not looking there. They're not seeing what the problem is so. So in working with the immune system, we gotta make sure we're keeping our microbiome strong. Remember, you can take probiotics, which some people respond well to and others don't. Always check with your doctor. But you always want to make sure that when you're taking probiotics, that's not going to repopulate the entire microbiome. You really want that prebiotic, which is the food for the microbiome, to help populate species that are not found in probiotics. In addition, making sure that you do tests like Sibo, like stool cultures that are functionally based so that you can actually see if your gut is functioning at its full capacity, so you know if there's something you need to do to strengthen your immune system. So those are the top things to consider for today. This is Lyme disease Awareness Month. Please do subscribe.
