Dr. Diane Mueller (Lyme, mold, and chronic illness clinician) explains that Lyme disease is not confined to New England and is appearing in places like Colorado and parks in California. She reports seeing positive Lyme tests among patients in her Colorado clinic who never visited New England, lists common chronic Lyme symptoms (fibromyalgia-like pain, headaches, fatigue, brain fog, neurological disturbances), and urges people with such symptoms to get properly tested by Lyme-literate clinicians because common standard tests can miss infections (one study cited a 67% false-negative rate). She also states songbirds can spread infected tick larvae, contributing to geographic spread. The video closes with directions to show notes for testing resources and a subscription request.

Hey, everybody. Dr. Diane, your Lyme mold and chronic illness expert, talking today about Lyme disease. Is it on the rise? What can we do about it? One of the most important things to understand from this video is despite what you might have heard from your general care practitioner, Lyme disease is not just happening in the New England states of the United States. I see so frequently people come to my clinic and will say things like, well, my doctor never tested me for Lyme because they said there was no Lyme in this state. Lyme is spreading everywhere, and we're still learning, right, the extent of this spread. But I can tell you, my practice is in Colorado. I test people here, positive all the time, that have never, never been to the New England states of the United States. We also see studies, for example, looking at parks across California showing that Lyme disease is found in parks there, even along bus bushes at the coastal area. So even in bushes at the beach. So we really need to think about getting outside of Lyme disease as something that is only found in the New England states. If you're suffering from some of the common symptoms of chronic Lyme, like fibromyalgia, joint pain, chronic headaches, fatigue, brain fog, neurological disturbances, or you just can't figure out what's wrong with you, it really is worth testing for Lyme. The biggest takeaway, I would say from this video is don't just think that just because you have not gone to Connecticut or Vermont or some of those New England states in the United States, just because you haven't gone to those areas does not mean Lyme should not be tested for. You need a proper Lyme test. And working with a Lyme literate clinician is important because the. The standard test that are being run. One research study showed a 67% chance of a false negative with those standard tests. So we really want to make sure that we are doing our due diligence to get in working with doctors that are Lyme literate, that can get us a proper test, that can evaluate the test correctly. We also know that Lyme is spreading due to these songbirds. So songbirds will carry larvae of infected ticks with them, and as they fly over the earth and defecate the larvae down onto the ground below, that is one way we know Lyme is spreading. So again, not just something happening in the New England state, we got to get out of that mentality so we can start really getting to the root cause here. And some of that is being an advocate for yourself, making sure you're getting proper tasks and if you have symptoms that sound like Lyme disease, you really want to be tested and not just to just assume that just because you haven't visited certain parts of the world that you're fine. So I hope this has been helpful information about how to work with my team and I how to get proper testing. It can be found in the show notes below.
