Lion's Mane for Brain Fog: Does It Really Work?

Dr. Diane Mueller explains how lion's mane boosts nerve growth factor and promotes nerve regeneration to clear brain fog, but it won't protect your neurons from toxins. She recommends pairing it with ginkgo biloba, cat's claw, bacopa, and gotu kola, and treating root causes like infections or toxin exposure for real results.

Hey everybody. Dr. Diane, your chronic illness expert here. We're talking about brain fog this month and this particular video is on the mushroom lion's mane. Lion's mane has gotten a lot of press because of its support with brain health and it does indeed increase something called nerve growth factor, which does help new nerves regenerate. So amazing, amazing, amazing, amazing for brain fog from a standpoint of fixing dead nerves, broken down nerves. Remember earlier in one of these videos I talked about certain toxins, for example, like mold toxins that can actually cause nerve cells to die and that can contribute to the brain fog. So when we take something like lion's mane, what that's doing is, is helping the nerve growth factor and that then is then helping us repair from that damage. Now there's also the con, the conversation about protection. Right. So we want to protect our brain cells against toxins. So hopefully we're just avoiding toxins to begin with. Right. As much as possible. We talk about that in earlier videos. Now lion's mane does not protect the brain, at least that's what the current research looks like. It's not nerve protective to the nervous system. It helps with that nerve regrowth. So yes, that's good, but, but it's going to work better if you combine it with something that is actually protective to the nerves from toxins. So these are things like ginkgo biloba we talked about already. Cat claw, which is actually used also for Lyme disease we've talked about. Bacopa is another great herb. So there go to kola is another one. So all of these herbs are neuroprotectors and the neuroprotectors really help to protect the brain against these, the damage of certain things like toxins and infections, these inflammatory types of things. While something like lion's mane is going to help repair that damage that's already done. So think of the lion's man is as a good addition to some of these other things and they work very synergistically by doing different things. Now remember, these supplements are only going to go so far if we don't take care of the root. So we want to know that root. So go back a few episodes ago to my, my video on testing and brain fog. And essentially with that you want to make sure that we are getting to that root cause because sometimes people will take supplements like this and like, why don't feel anything? Well, we're only going to feel so much if we're not getting rid of that root. It's like putting a band aid on a splinter. Right. And we don't actually take the splinter out. Well, you know, sometimes the band aid will prevent it from getting the splinter from getting snagged, or maybe it protects it or puts a little pressure off, but it's neatly. You still want to take the splinter out if you're going to get out of pain. So essentially finding the root cause is like that splinter. Right. We can essentially do these other types of treatments that can be helpful and supportive and are a huge part of the process. We also want to go back and find that reason. So go back and watch that testing episode again. In the Show Notes, you will find information about how to get tested. Look out for my next masterclass where I talk about topics like this and more. That's all also in the Show Notes and please do subscribe. We're coming close to the end of Brain Fog month. We have one more Brain Fog video coming up here in a few days. Make sure you subscribe so you can get notifications about that. We're going to be talking about brain fog and chronic fatigue, so I look forward to seeing you there.
