Dr. Diane Mueller explains that the liver protein MRP2 exports broken-down histamine, but handles only about 20% of it. Most histamine is degraded by diamine oxidase (DAO), an enzyme made in the small intestine. Supporting small intestine health and optionally supplementing DAO can help with histamine intolerance.

Hey everybody. Dr. Diane here. Part three on MrP2 and histamine. So MrP2 is that protein that helps your liver to move histamine out of it when it's broken down. We talk in a different video about how to make the Mrp2 protein work, but I wanted to let you know that the liver only breaks down in the body about 20% of the histamine. Most of histamine breakdown actually occurs from the enzyme diamine oxidase, otherwise known as dao, which is actually made from our cells in our small intest. So you can supplement with DAO in order to help your body break down histamine. That this is a huge reason why if you are intolerant to histamine, you're super reactive or you have MCAs. Why it's really, really important for you to work with your small intestine health so your body can begin to make that enzyme on your own. Alright, we'll see you in the next one. Thanks so much.
