Treating Mold Illness: Steps to Recovery and Relief

Dr. Diane Mueller explains how mold toxins cross into the brain through a leaky blood-brain barrier, causing brain fog and migraines. High cholesterol and SIBO both increase that leakiness, so treating mold illness means fixing your home, lowering cholesterol, and clearing gut infections.

In this video, we're going to talk about treatments for mold illness. And in my blog and YouTube video on how to treat mold illness, I go into the super high level component of treatment. In this video, I want to get into some of the other nuances of treatment. So in my video on how to treat mold illness, we went through the order of treatment, making sure to test your house first. Definitely watch that video. But some of the other things I wanted to add on here are other things that can be related to mold illness that are often not talked about. For example, one of the things that happens with mold illness is oftentimes there's a leech in the blood brain barrier. The blood brain barrier is supposed to relatively keep things out of the brain that are not supposed to be there. When there is a breach, then we get toxins into the brain, such as mold toxins. This leads to a lot of the brain fog, a lot of the depersonalization. It's also connected to a lot of the headaches and migraines and other components we see with mold illness. Now, one of the things that will lead to a leaky blood brain barrier is high cholesterol. And I'm bringing this up because you might, if you have borderline high cholesterol, it might seem like a lower down the rung problem. And it might be from a cardiovascular standpoint, depending upon what's happening on your, you know, on the level of the arteries. But from a standpoint of your blood brain barrier by getting your cholesterol under control. So that can help seal up the blood brain barrier and prevent those toxins from getting inside the brain. Another component that's really important with treatments is sibo, S I B O standing for small intestinal bacteria overgrowth. This is a common problem with mold illness. It can be tested for with a breath test. And how this is related is SIBO will release a toxin called an endotoxin. The endotoxin will go to the brain and can also cause leakiness of the brain, allowing for mold, allowing for metals, allowing for other toxins to enter the brain. So it's really important that in addition to doing everything that I do talk about in my other video and blog on how to treat mold illness, that you also consider things like balancing cholesterol and fixing any infections in the gut, such as an overgrowth of sibo, because we want to make sure that that blood brain barrier stays really strong so that we're not getting toxins inside the brain. And these are some of the missing things that people do not always think think about when they are thinking about mold illness that really really help to make sure make for a thorough treatment.
