Hi, this is Dr. Jameca Cooper, and I want to make sure you like this video and subscribe to this channel before we get started. Thanks for joining us on this 30 Days of Radical Healing. I'm Dr. Jameca Cooper, a psychologist in the Midwest. I've been practicing for about 20 years, and we are in the midst of a series that is going to lead you to the healing that you deserve before the end of this year and starting off the next year. Dr. Jameca Cooper. Today we're talking about radical healing and setting goals, specifically goal setting and reviewing the goals that you might have, um, as you end the year. So I want you to think about it as a way of reflection and review for this year. So one of the things that I want to start by saying is, in order for you to figure out goals that you might need to work on you probably should sit down and talk to people that you trust. So whether that is a partner, a parent, or friends or family, sit down and talk to someone who really, really knows you and has walked with you through the journey, at least through this year, and knows your highs and lows, your ups and your downs. You could also discuss these type of things with your counselor or therapist or a religious leader if that's who you trust. But the goal is to you— for you to get some idea of what has happened this year, and we're going to talk in detail about what I mean by that. So the first thing you should be looking at is what went well this year in 2021. When you review the year all the way from January 1st to now, like, what has happened? What has this year looked like for you? What has went well? What are your wins? What are things you feel like you accomplished? Goals you set and you achieved? Um, things you might have obtained that you always wanted to attain. So maybe you'd worked all the years prior to, um, to buy a car, or to buy a specific type of car. Maybe you worked all this year about how to pay off some debt. Maybe you worked on solidifying some of the relationships that you already had. So whatever the goal is, talk to people, figure out what went well. What are the things that you know for sure you can identify, saying that these are some things that I'm really, really proud of that happened to me this year as a result of some intention, some strategy, some discipline, some planning, some follow-through. So sit down and look at what those things are. My next tip for you is to look at what did not go well. So when you're looking at what did not go well, think about plans or goals you might have set out at the beginning of the year and maybe some that did not pan out. And when you're thinking about what did not go well, I want you to think about maybe what was missing, what traits or characteristics that you didn't have or did not possess enough of that would have made the goal or outcome more obtainable. So I want you to think about it in those ways as far as what you had, what you did not have, what might have been nice to have in order to help you achieve that goal. So take a note, take a list of things that did not go well, things that you regret, that could have occurred this year, people or relationships that maybe didn't go as well as they should have gone. What are some psychological goals that you set out to achieve at the beginning of the year? An example would be like feeling less depressed over the year or finding more balance in your life. So what didn't go well with it and why? Why wasn't it easy, or why weren't you able to achieve the balance that you set out to do in January of 2021? Um, before I keep going, I want to go back to what went well. When you think about what went well for you this year in 2021, I want you to really categorize it out. I want you to look at that into different categories and different areas, because usually what I found in therapy is that no one is successful in all areas. No one is also unsuccessful in all areas. So when you think about what went well, think about what went well for you in the area of parenting? What did you do well? What are some things you're really proud of? What are some milestones that you hit this year as a parent that when you look back on them, you can sit back and say, you know what, I'm really, really, really proud of that? Um, also, what about you as a friend? What are some things or goals that you achieved this year as a friend that you're really, really proud of? Maybe you made time to talk on the phone to your friends more each week than you had the previous year. Maybe you set time out to go on a vacation with your friends and you did that this year. So think about specific categories. Work would be another category you would look at. What went well with work, um, and why, of course. But there are lots of other areas. Family, you could look at, um, lots of things. Health, mental health, all those things could be different areas where you sit back and really take stock of what went well this year. So Remember, look at this in various categories. So, so far you're going to look at what went well with you this year and also what did not go well. Now, as you look at what did not go well, I want you to really focus on resources and challenges. So what would have made those things that didn't go well go well? What would have changed the outcome of some of those things that you're referring to this year? And Sometimes it is December, it may be difficult to look back on January things unless you keep a journal and keep track of events, activities, and your feelings and thoughts. It may be difficult to kind of go back and look at January things, but definitely the latter half of the year should be a lot easier for you. So the last thing that I want you to do as you review the year and start to think about how you want the next year to be is reflect. And sit and think about lessons that you learned this year. What are some things that you can take away when you leave this year, start a new year, and even beyond that in the next decade? What are some things that you will always remember about 2021? Maybe this is a year of financial growth for you. Maybe it was a year of life lessons regarding family or friends. Maybe it was a year of health challenges. Maybe it was a year where you worked, worked, work and really didn't see the fruits of your labor. So what are those lessons that you're going to learn for this year? I think it's important to sit back and think about what those lessons are so that you can really determine if you learned the lesson. It can be a lesson, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you learned the lesson. And one of the things about life is that there will continue to be another test and another test and another test, and then more tests after that until you actually learn the lesson. So it's up to you to figure out what the lesson is and to see if you actually pass the test. So what are some lessons? Hopefully you can think about some of those that have been great for you in 2021, um, some of those that maybe you hope to learn in the next year. So drop some of the lessons that you learned in the comments. I am eager to hear what they are. I think they're going to be lots of things that some of us probably haven't thought about when you think about lessons. We're always kind of focusing on maybe some of the bigger ones like financial growth, um, things, material things could be areas of growth as well, but I don't think people think about some of those other areas where people don't talk about it as much. So maybe getting more sleep Maybe becoming more mindful. What are some of the lessons, some of the things you achieved that you're really, really proud of? I want to hear more from you and make sure you like this video, subscribe to this channel, but also make sure you stay tuned for more videos on Radical Healing. We're still in the midst of 30 Days of Radical Healing. Today we are talking about reviewing the year, and one of the next videos you should check out should be the video about testimony for 2021. As well as setting goals. So I appreciate you for joining us today, and make sure you tune in for more videos. Thanks, and I'm Dr. Jameca Cooper.
