POST CARE TUMMY TUCK AT TOP COSMETIC SURGEON

Annika from TruCare walks through post-op tummy tuck care step by step. You'll need gloves, gauze, ABD pads, Betadine, and ointment. The video covers sterile wound cleaning, ointment application, proper taping with hypafix, and how to use a compression garment during recovery.
Take a trip into my garden. I've got so much to show.
Hi, my name is Annika. I'm the surgery scheduling coordinator here at TruCare. Today I'm going to go over a few instructions for after a tummy tuck. Okay. So there are a few items that you do need to purchase before the surgery. I'm going to go ahead and list all of the ones that you need to purchase. So first off, we need to get a box of gloves. Okay. We need you to get a box of sterile gauze. Okay. They're going to be packaged individually and then we need a package, another box of sterile Q tips. Each Q tip is going to be packaged into two at a time and it's perfect for the aftercare. Another item you need to purchase are sterile ABD caps, all of which you're going to be using a lot of. So we do need you to purchase a few boxes of these. In addition, we need you to purchase a bottle of rubbing alcohol if you don't have it already at and then there's also going to be some ointment that you also need to purchase. And this will be written on your prescription that we give you on the day of your pre op. We also have a bottle of Betadine solution. This solution you're going to start washing your body with starting three days before surgery. So what you're going to do is you're going to jump in the shower, you're going to wash your whole body like normal. Make sure you rinse your hair out completely. And then you're going to use this solution and wash your body with it. When you use it. You can also take your sterile Q tips and actually rub it inside your belly button to actually clean it out. You don't have to dig in there really hard, but just make sure you clean out your belly button with the solution as well. Once you're finished, go ahead and rinse. When you get out of the shower, you can pat dry. And I need you to do this twice a day, starting three days before surgery. This is a spirometer. We're going to give this to you on the day of your pre op appointment and we're going to have you start practicing on how to use it because before your surgery, this is very crucial to be doing after the surgery. It's going to help expand your lungs so that you don't get pneumonia. Here she's actually going to demonstrate on how to use a spirometer properly. So what she's going to do is actually seal her mouth around the edge of this tip here. And she's going to take a very large, deep breath in. And she's going to do this about 10 minutes every hour. Okay. And this is just showing her she's expanding her lungs so that she doesn't get any fluid inside her lungs post surgery. So the first thing we do as far as taking care of the patient after surgery is you want to go ahead and put a pair of your gloves on just like this. We'll also take the rubbing alcohol. Okay. We'll go ahead and open it and actually pour a little bit on your gloves. And you're just going to wash your hands as if it were soap and water. And we're going to let it dry. This is going to keep your gloves sterile for when you actually touch your patient. Our Wonderful patient is 8 weeks post tummy tuck, so she is pretty much healed. So bear with me. We're just going to go through the motion for post surgery. Okay. Sterile gauze. Okay. We don't want you to touch the center of the gauze. You always want to grab the corner. So what you're going to do with this is you're going to grab each corner here and you're just going to hold them in to your fingertips. Okay. So this portion of the gauze is completely sterile. After that, you're going to take a little bit of alcohol and you're actually just going to pour it onto the gauze. And this portion here, we're gonna clean the lower portion of her tummy tuck incision. Just get any excess scabs, blood, just cleaning the wound very, very well. So after that, we're gonna grab another sterile gauze. Same thing. You're gonna hold it on the corner, bring all the corners to your fingertips. And with this dry piece of gauze, we're actually going to dry the incision. So I just go ahead and pat dry. We're going to continue to do this process for about two weeks after surgery. Dr. Farrazani and myself will actually clear you for when you can stop applying the ointment to the incision. And after that, I will show you the next steps and what we can.
Do.
After we apply the ointment. What we're going to do is open another piece of that sterile gauze. Same thing as I demonstrated before. We're going to take this piece of gauze and we're actually going to leave it on her belly button here. So we're just going to leave it right there. Next, what we're going to do is take one of the sterile ABD caps. Okay. Open it up the same way with this one. Same thing here. As you can see, there's a little flap. We're going to go ahead and only touch that little flap. And so this whole piece here is sterile. And we're actually going to leave it on top of the belly button just like this. In addition, we're going to apply more ABD pads along the lower incision. After applying the ABD pads, we're just going to place a little bit of tape. A lot of people are actually very sensitive with tape allergies. So what we're going to do is just apply a little bit on the skin and a little here. After this is complete, we're just going to go ahead and put the garment back on. So now Angie is about two weeks post op. We're gonna go ahead and clear her to wear the second stage garment. While she wears a second stage garment, we're actually going to tape her lower and portion. Angie's now cleared to wear the second stage garment. We're going to go and tape her lower incision. And that's going to help with the scar. It's going to help it so it doesn't get thick, it doesn't raise, and it's going to keep it nice and flat and a very thin scar. So we can go ahead and take.
Off.
All of the pads. We're going to clean her incision the same way with the alcohol. We're going to grab this corner here in each corner and apply a little alcohol. This is going to clean her skin very, very well. And it's going to help the tape stick a lot long. The next step is applying the tape. We're gonna apply this hypofix tape. You can actually order this online. I think Amazon sells it. Or we're actually just gonna apply it every time you come in for your appointment. Okay. What we're gonna do is leave the tape on and you can go ahead and shower. When you shower, just let the warm water run over the tape. Once the tape starts to come off on the edges, then we can go ahead and peel it off after a few days and then come back in and we can apply some more tape. Okay, so I'm just gonna go ahead this tape to my wonderful patient here. So our wonderful patient here, she has a vertical element to her tummy tuck. So with this portion, we actually don't want to put any of the tape over the vertical element right away. Usually there's a little bit of scabbing there. So we just want to put a little bit of ointment as we have been doing previous. And then we'll just put the tape on either side of the implant. So we're going to apply the Bactrivent ointment to the incision of her vertical element. Okay. So same thing with the Q tip. What we're going to do is open it sterilely. We're just going to grab one of the Q tips and we're going to apply a little bit of ointment to the Q tip with this. This is how we're going to lay it on the incision. And we'll just apply an ABD pad right over that just to hold it down. So when she goes up at this point, she's there to wear the second stage garment. So we're going to go ahead and demonstrate on what the garment looks like and how to apply. This is the second stage garment. It actually doesn't have any zippers, so it's really nice, it's comfortable and it's really easy to put on. So what we already did, as you can see, is we put it over her legs already. Okay. And what our patient's going to do is actually going to bend forward a little bit and she's going to grab the front end and at the same time I'm going to pull up from behind. And as you can see, it's very easy to put on. It's very comfortable. There's no more zipper and it's not pinching your skin so you don't need to apply the pads underneath.
Into my garden I've got so much to show you the fountains and the waters are begging Just to know you and it's true baby I've been saving this for you baby I guess it's something like a.
Those are all the steps for the post op instructions for a tummy tuck. We look forward to seeing you.
