A YouTube talk by Dr. Calm debunking common myths about meditation and giving practical guidance. In this segment Dr. Calm explains that meditation does not create restlessness but increases awareness of pre-existing restlessness; that long sitting alone doesn't guarantee effective meditation (quality of calm matters); and that benefits can appear quickly for some people. He invites questions about discipline and plans a short 15–20 minute practice.

We already discussed some of the myths that meditation is a religious practice now it makes you more restless. Some people say, no, that is not true. Meditation doesn't make you more restless. You just became aware of the restlessness within you as you started meditating. Make sense. All of a sudden you're watching your thoughts and like, oh my God, they're going like this. So you became aware of it. It's already there before you were not before aware of it before. We already discussed myth number three. Sitting long in meditative posture doesn't mean that you meditated well. You know, you could be going around the entire world just sitting here in your thoughts, thinking about them. So if you can calm your mind and achieve that state of peace, that is when actually you have meditated well. But do not be discouraged, because every person will have problem with this. Just keep doing it and you'll get there. And sitting long in meditation actually is important as long as you can. Because the longer you can sit, the greater the chances of the thoughts to subside completely. And then it takes years to benefit from meditation. Not true. Like I mentioned in my example, that was the first time ever that I did meditation. And I could see the result immediately. When you can calm your mind, you will see the results instantaneously. Instantaneously. Sometimes. But sometimes you may not see it right away. It depends on the person, depends on the situation. But the benefits start early. That is what I could say. What I want to do is practice meditation maybe for 15 to 20 minutes. And before that, I want to take a moment to answer any questions, comments, so that I address them first. So what if someone says they, they're not very disciplined or they really have a problem with disciplining themselves to just take this time? Yeah. Yes. How would you advise them? Okay.
