Surprising Meditation Benefits You Didn't Know Existed!

Dr. Karan Dinjala (Dr. Calm) presents a talk on meditation myths and truths framed within his "Happiness Formula" (421-3214). He recaps the formula: four forces to escape despair (hope, faith, patience, endurance), two pillars to build lasting peace (innate health and resiliency), one core understanding (stress defined as a state of mind with three stages), and three laws of thought mechanics (flowing thoughts = peace; stagnated thoughts = stress; focused thoughts become reality). The talk frames meditation and relaxation exercises as practical tools that follow from this framework to reduce stress and restore calmness.

Thanks Sharon. Hello everyone. Welcome to the presentation. Meditation, the benefits, Myths and truth. There are many myths about meditation and we are going to bust them. Today I am so thankful to Sharp Memorial Hospital, Cushman Wellness center and all the team members welcoming me to do this presentation today. Last time actually we did another presentation called Calm in the Midst of Chaos. And as a part of that, you guys all learned those people who attended at that time, the Happiness Formula 421321. I'm going to briefly recap that and then move on to this topic. So over the past decade, after many experiences in life, research, study and helping many clients, doing many speeches, what it is, I came up with this formula called Happiness Formula. Like how can you put happiness into your formula? That is what I was thinking. Because in life we're always struggling, isn't it? There's always something going on, whether it is Covid. If Covid is over Ukraine, war and inflation, financial problems, health problems, relationship problems. I mean life is full of challenges. So in the midst of all those challenges, how can we find calmness? How can we find happiness? So when I thought about it then I came up with this formula. 421-3214 means there are four forces that will pull you out of despair. If you are in a bad situation in life, for whatever reason, you need to come out of it first. You know, sometimes we are stuck in the pit of misery and we get depressed, we feel hopeless. So during those times, these four forces will pull you out of it. Hope, faith, patience, endurance. And then once you come out of it, the next step is to build a strong foundation for lasting peace and joy in life. And for that we discussed the two pillars which are innate health and resiliency. These two pillars help you access your inner peace and joy. Briefly, innate health is your natural state of mental well Being where you are peaceful and joyful when you are born, that is how you are born, that is your default setting. And when you are in that state, when you can access that state again and again, it doesn't matter what situation you face in life. This I have experienced again time and again in my life and many of my clients life clients lives. So resiliency is your capacity to bounce back from stressful situation, back to peace of mind, back to feeling good. We all have that inner resiliency, the strength to adapt, to be flexible. The strength to endure problems and come back to our normal selves. So these two pillars, innate health, inner resiliency, will help you build a lasting foundation of peace and joy. If anyone wants to know more about these, just email me at stressfreerevolutionmail.com and I'll be happy to share with you the previous presentation. And the third thing we all need to understand so that we can live a happy life, a stress free life is. Understanding what actually stress is. Understanding what actually stress is. Until you understand it, you won't be able to escape stress. A lot of people do not have a clue. They think stress is the symptoms, you know, anxiety, palpitations, Nausea, vomiting or whatever that is going on in their life. They identify with that. But actually stress at its core is a state of mind. And there are three stages of stress. The first is a stress state of mind. The second is release of stress hormones. And the third is the signs and symptoms of stress. So all these three things happen whenever you are stressed. So if you understand at its core, stress is a state of mind where you feel unhappy and miserable, then you can attack it there, uproot it from roads. If you're just managing your symptoms, you won't actually prevent the problem in the first place. And even if it is there, you're trying to solve it, you won't be able to solve it. So there is a third part of the formula. Four, two, one, there is that one understanding. And then the next part of the formula is 3, 2, 1 and 3 is the three laws of thought mechanics that we discussed. The first law of thought mechanics is. Okay, before that, let me explain. You like our physical world is governed by the Newton's laws, right? The same way our mental world is governed by these laws of thought mechanics. These mental laws like you can't hit that wall and not feel the pain, right? Because for every action that is equal and opposite reaction, the same way when you do certain things mentally, you are going to get stressed. And you understanding that is very important. So these laws will help you understand that and evade stress. So the first law of thought mechanics is when thoughts flow freely in your mind, you feel naturally peaceful and joyful. The second law is stagnated thoughts lead to stress. Let me give an example. Let's say water is flowing in a river freely, and then that water is fresh, you can drink, it is healthy. But the moment there is a blockage to the flow of water, then stagnation, bacteria, dirt, foul smelling, not healthy anymore. The same way in your mind, thoughts flow freely, like water flows freely in a river. Your mind is like a river. And as long as thoughts are flowing freely, you're naturally peaceful and joyful. And the moment you start thinking something negative, getting attached to that situation, you build a nest of trouble inside your head. You build a dam that prevents the flow of thoughts. And then you start feeling stressed, miserable. So you need to break down that dam so that you can restore your peace of mind and happiness. Okay, so that is the second law. The third law is whatever thoughts that you focus on, that becomes your reality. And this is very important because when you're feeling bad, when there is something going on in your life, we can't help but keep focusing on that problem, right? And then we get stuck there. But often that leads to either analysis, paralysis. You're trying to solve the problem, you're thinking about it all the time, but that gives you anxiety, worry, and you're paralyzed thinking about the problem. But rather, if you can let it go and change your focus to something else, that will reduce stress, that will help you be calm, relaxed. And in that state of relaxation and calmness, you find solutions. And you can change your focus from one thought to another as if you change your TV channels. It is as simple as that. Think about, you have the remote, you can decide which thoughts you want to focus and which thoughts you don't want to focus. It is as simple as that. So that is what we discussed last time. Now, the second part of the formula, which is the, you know, 4 to 1, 3 to 1, the 2:1, the last 2:1 components, is about relaxation exercises. Meditation, you know, having knowledge and understanding about stress, that all helps to some extent. But there are times, even with all the knowledge and understanding, you just can't de stress yourselves. And during those times, these relaxation exercises, these calming techniques help you. Okay, now meditation. So meditation.
