2022 BMW R nineT Option 719 - Rear Fender Fail (and Fix!)

Dr. Chris Stout unboxes a rear fender for his 2022 BMW R nineT from Revzilla. The part covers the rear tire and protects the swingarm as part of a tail-tidy project. It has an adjustable design that hugs the tire and a metal internal component, with installation coming in a future video.

Foreign. Chris Stout here just with another unboxing for the BMW, our 9T project. This was purchased via Revzilla. Thank you guys. Shout out to them. And we may have to do a pause. That's kind of cool. Kewig. I'm not exactly sure how to pronounce the company that I got this, but it is a rear fender for the rear tire underneath. Because I'm going to do a. I've also ordered a kit for the tail delete and sorry, I am struggling with this. I'll be right back. Okay. And we're back. So got that opened up as I was starting to say that the rear fender. I'm going to do a rear fender delete of all this and do a tail tidy. So this is going to be going away as soon as those parts come in. I'll be doing a video on that installation as well. But if we look down here into the box, here's our instructions. I also saw on the Revzilla site that they had a PDF of this so I could kind of take a look at what I was getting myself into before actually doing it. Seeing if I needed any other kind of special tools or anything, which is super helpful. I really do appreciate that possibility of being able to see those kinds of things. So the piece itself goes on to. I'll show you. I can't get to it very easily from where my bike's at right now. But this is a fender that basically kind of hugs the tire a bit. It's got some adjustments so you can make sure that it's properly done. And again I'll be showing how we will do that.
Let's take it out of the wrapper if we can.
Ta da. So it's kind of cool. Carbon fiber and I presume some kind of heavy duty fiberglass or plastic or something. Here it is.
Maybe.
Actually, I take that back. This. I think this is.
This is metal, actually this internal.
So. So that's cool. So anyway, this will be going on to cover. I'll try and show you a little bit here. But basically it'll be going over
this
rear tire in a sense and protecting up underneath this area here, keeping road debris out of the spring and keeping that looking nice. So it'll be eventually connecting up with these guys. Something along. Well, if you can see that. Something along those lines. So I think it'll be functional. I think it'll be nice to get rid of this and then still not worry about back spray. I don't plan on doing a lot of rain riding, but I think it'll be functional as well as a nice piece. So be sure to tune in to that episode where I do the installation. Thanks a lot.
Boy, I thought putting this fender in would be so easy. Just take out a couple bolts, put in a couple bolts, and ready to roll. That was not the case. The big deal issue was not the bolt to the brake, but the bolt to the frame and sort of a brake cable lever, if you will. And I was. Since I moved, I have don't have any jacks, any really proper tools. So everything is done in a very small garage post covet move. And I needed. I theorized I needed a jack to be able to jack the bike up and then be able to drop the swing arm to the proper position to be able to put this fender in. And fortunately, I have a. A new BFF here in Door county, which is a bit of a challenge. Glacier Performance, Door County. I went over there with my theory in hand and said, hey, I think if I could jack the bike up, if you have a jack, this will line up the swing arm and we can put this in. And we tested it, and it worked. And then I went back, got my wrenches, put it all in. And a very happy ending to this story.
