Beginner’s Guide to Racing – Nürburgring – On Course Coaching Porsche GT4 – 1 of 2

In this 30‑minute on‑board video Dr. Chris Stout presents the second lap of a four‑lap run in a Porsche 718 GT4 Cayman on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, paired with live, turn‑by‑turn coaching from Thomas of Ring Taxi. The video is part of a three‑part “Beginner’s Guide to Racing – Nürburgring” series that also includes a full‑overview companion and a third‑lap on‑course coaching episode. Stout introduces the purpose of the series, points viewers to the show notes, and invites questions. Throughout lap 2 Thomas delivers a continuous stream of instructions—when to stay on the gas, when to lift or apply the brake, which side of the track to use, how to handle overtaking BMWs, and where to position the car for optimal apexes. The coaching emphasizes smooth inputs, maintaining speed, and safe line selection on the high‑speed straights and tight corners of the Nordschleife. The video blends instructional commentary with a conversational, enthusiastic tone, aiming to give beginners a realistic feel for the car and track while encouraging safe, incremental learning.

Hello and welcome, or welcome back if you're already familiar with some of the other videos that I put together. My name is Chris Stout and this is a companion piece to two other videos in this video about the Nurburgring. In this video we'll be covering point of view from the dashboard with overlaid coaching, so to speak, with my coach, Thomas from Ring Taxi. We are in a Porsche 718 GT4 Cayman, which was just really kind of an amazing car. Be sure to watch the other two companion videos in this series. The Beginner's Guide to Racing Nurburgring. Complete Overview with the GT4, how to get there, the hotel situations, vendors and things like that, as well as this video is also embedded in it, plus a couple of others. And then the part two of this. So what you're going to be seeing is I did four laps in this car. What you'll be seeing in this is lap two and if you like it and find it helpful to hear Thomas's voiceover with when to do what, then you might also like to watch the Companion 2 of 2 where I am on the course and that is with lap three. So buckle up. And I hope you find this video helpful, maybe a little bit entertaining and educational. If you want to see what it's like to experience the Nurburgring from the driver's seat or if you're interested in getting out there yourself and learning maybe some of the tips from an expert. Thomas, my coach, thanks and appreciate you watching. Please do take a look at the show notes. If you've done the ring yourself, add some comments. If there's questions that you have. After watching this, put those in the comments. I'll respond back as soon as I can. And a lot of links and tools and whatnot in the show notes, so I hope this is of help. Thanks for watching and be safe.
But it's normally not allowed to stay.
Sorry.
Okay, wings free. We go behind the BMW. So after the pylons at the end, this is the wrong straight that you know. Area two and a half kilometer, only straight on the races. Fast part of track here. The race cars they have here 290km, but we have to go in and out here. After the B, you go on the right and then stay on gas. But it's a very long straight. So now right side and stay on gas. Press the middle you will. Let's go. Stay on gas, stay on gas, stay on gas, Stay right, stay on gas, stay on gas. There's a BMW behind. Stay on gas, but on the right. Stay on gas. No, left with gas. Right side, right side. Now we go in a little bit gas here, a little bit gas. So now let the car lower. Then we go left. And then we brake for the right. So brake here, open the brake. Come in a little bit gas. We go back on the left. Little bit gas, stay left. So lift, come in little bit gas. Break back on the outside. And now with gas, move back on the right. I'm gas on gas, right side. Now lift, break here. So open the brake. Then we go in to curve a little bit gas. We go back on the outside. So then stay right there is Aris. Little bit gas, right side on gas, on gas, on gas, back on the left. So lift brake a little bit and you move in. And now a little bit gas, a little more gas. Left side. Still gas left. Gas gas left. Now lift right here on the straight over the brake. Let the car move back on the right a little bit gas and go back on the outside. Little bit gas back on the right. So lift a little bit gas, you right and then stay right and you go left a little bit gas. A little bit gas. With gas back on the on the right side. On gas, back on the left. Lift break a little bit. That's okay. Again, little bit gas. Now straight on gas, on gas, on gas, on gas. Back on the right. Stay right and full of gas. Stay on gas. Down gas, down gas. I should like to only, but still problem inside on gas, on gas, on gas, on gas, on gas. On the down left only. No brake. Need to go in right side a little bit gas outside. And then you go back on the inside. A little bit more gas. Trust me. On the left on gas. We go into the middle. We can go a little bit faster. It's no problem. Inside one gas nicely inside. Having a smooth bed on the right on gas, right side. So now lift, stay right. And now break for the left. Break here. Open the brake. Open the brake. Soft here. A little bit gas inside. Then lift, stay L and brake for the body. So brake a little bit more. A little bit too fast. So let's stay right for the BMW. A little bit gas, right side. Stay on gas. Stay on gas. Stay on gas. Stay on gas. Left side of the little bit gas. Take the left side. Yeah. Okay. Long gas, long gas. All right. So now we only no brake in and we go back on the right. And then we break a little bit for the left. So open the brake, let the car roll inside. Little bit gas, lift. Let the car roll inside, inside. So then we go Left and then break to the outside. So now break to the outside. And then we go sharp in. But this is aven our falls.
Oh, jeez.
Very sharp corner. Especially for the first time. So many people call here. So now we can stay full on gas. Still gas. Left. Still gas. St gas back on the right. On gas. On gas. Right long gas. Go back on the left. Now lift. Break a little bit to the outside. Outside open the brake and then we go in. Yeah, a little bit gas back on the right. So then lift brake here one time. That's a good. A little bit gas back on the right. A little bit more gas. Then we go back on the left. More gas, left gas, gas, gas. Then lift brake one time. So open the brake, lift the car. Come in, in, in. So a little bit gas. We go back on the right on gas, right? Non gas. On gas. Now left only. No brake. And now we go in. Little bit gas here, back on the right. Little bit more gas back on the left. So now only lift, no brake. Here we go in the apex point is this one here. And then a little bit gas back on the outside. Almost got gas, gas, gas. So now lift brake here. So open the brake. Second brake a little bit for the left here. Brake a little. So then we go sharp in. A little bit gas. Right side. So there's a photograph. You can. Stay on gas, stay on gas. So now lift. You go back on the right. Waiting brake. I will say so now break here. So open the brake. Sh. In little bit on the outside. Little bit gas here. Gas, gas, gas. Let me go back on the left on gas. On gas. Now lift only for the next come in little bit gas. A little bit more gas. Back on the outside. Now full on gas. Full on gas. Full on gas. Back on the right here. So this is the louder curve. 70 kilometer is accident on this point. So on gas here. Inside we go a little bit to the middle. And then we go back on the left. So now lift brake here. And stay there. Open the brake. Open the brake. Late apex. Here we go in, in. Little bit gas, little bit gas. A little bit gas back on the outside. But now full on gas. Full on gas. Full on gas. Taxi. We stay on the right side, please. Little bit more gas. Stay right. That will help you. Probably bigger. No problem. St gas. We can go faster. No risk. Trust me, it's no risk. Okay, so right side here. On gas. Now in and st gas. Let me go back on the right. Still strong gas. It's very nice still. This must be down gas. Steady Gas very good. That's the sound from the morning machine.
Yeah.
So hold the speed. Speed is very fine. Now we go in back on the right. So then we break a little bit further left. That's okay. Come in little bit gas back on the outside. On gas. Trust me. And go back on the right. On gas. On gas. Now we go back on the left. Stay left for the next corner. Only lift. Only lift. Come in. Little bit gas. Again. Stay on gas. St. Now lift. Left side. Break a little bit further. Right here. So open. Yeah. Little bit more. And now stay inside. Little bit gas. Stay inside. So they come to BMW. Stay right. Let them overtake us. And then we have the freeway for the commissary on gas here on the right side. Now lift. Break a little bit. And then be jump to the carousel. Stay on the white stripe here at this point. A little bit more gas. But stay on the white stripe. That's the correct line here. Yeah. Very good. Now we go out and gas inside, inside. Gas back on the right. So lift a little bit. Lift. Come in little bit gas. We go big on the outside. Long gas, non gas. Stay wide. So we only left coming a little bit gas. Hold the speed. Speed is fine. A little bit more gas inside. And we go back on the left. Now lift only outside. Here we go in a little bit gas. A little bit gas back on the left. On gas. On gas. Back on the left side. Brake a little bit. That's okay. Now let the car go. No gas, no brake. Stay right. Let the car roll. We go left and then stay left. And then we go in. Now a little bit gas back on the left on gas. Small brake for the right. That's okay. Come here. Stay inside. A little bit gas inside. Now gas. Yeah. Lift brake a little bit. Here we go. Early inside. Open the brake. We go a little bit to the middle. A little bit more gas. And then we go back on the left. So lift. Break for the right. Brake a little more. So that's okay. So with gas back on the left still gas, left one gas. Now lift. Make your shoulder doesn't become a little bit gas. Now we go back on the outside, back on the right. One gas, lift. Yeah, here we go. In a little bit less ride. Very good. For the first time. It's not bad. So, okay. Long gas on gas. Right side, smooth inside. And now straight here. On gas. On gas. Now lift it. After the bump, you need a small break. Small. That's okay. Inside, little bit gas outside, inside. And you go on the left. This is pipe Corner and then you stay on the right side. So let them pass. Please stay right. I will help you this time. Let's blind corner. So gas, long gas. Long gas. No risk here inside. This is the front of left corner. So inside, inside and gas in the middle. Stay on gas, stay on gas. So now left. Break here one time. And that is big. A little more. I stay right for the BMWs. Don't come over. Take us break a little bit and we stay on the right side. That's okay. Say right. Take the indicator on the right side with more gas only stay right. So 1, 2, 3 cars behind. So break and then we go here in way three nine. Gas. Stay right for the BMW. And still if you go a bit on the left. Gas. Now lift only lift. Here you go in. Let me go back on the outside a little bit gas. So now lift. Let the car come in a little bit gas. Stay inside. And now with gas we go back on the outside to the hourly bridge. One gas and then we go back on the right. That's it. Easy peasy. Jeez, I can't imagine racing on this. Oh my gosh.
Thomas.
If you want you can make a short break or we take second hand. Now it's your take a short break. Let me go to this car park here, turn a little bit air. Yeah. And then compose myself. Yeah. He warm up the tire.
Yeah.
Now lamps over. It's warming up again to stop.
Right here.
Yeah. We go right, but then we go straight.
Right.
I see straight. Not here. Follow the blue one. The blue one. Then stay on the right lane. Left lane is for next lap. Right lane is for the car park. And then we go right. Right. And we can park anywhere.
