Breast implants can go above or below the pectoral muscle. Above-muscle heals faster (two weeks) and stops implants from moving when you flex, but shows more in thin patients and has higher contracture rates. Below-muscle takes six weeks to recover but lowers contracture risk.

above or below the muscle? Which place should you put your implant? A lot of people are talking about going above the muscle, and I do think it has its application. Talk about the pros of going above the muscle: your recovery is a little bit less. Normally when we go underneath the muscle, it's a 6-week recovery. When you go above the muscle successfully, it's about 2-week recovery in terms of upper body mobility. You don't get that animation, so if you're really flexing a lot, you don't get that animation disruption when you're flexing your chest. Most people don't go around and doing that, but those of you really active, that could be important to you. Downsides of going above the muscle is that it is definitely more noticeable for some people if you are thin. If you have enough breast tissue there and you could subfascial, and you may not be able to notice. You could always go half underneath the muscle if you're not worried about those other, other things, and you're going to get a nice, more natural look, especially for the skinnier type person. The other part of that is capsular contracture. Capsular contracture is generally lower when you go half underneath the muscle. If you go above the muscle, capcon is a little bit higher. So I hope that was helpful for you. Let me know in the DMs if you have any more questions about whether you should go above or below the muscle.
