Jeffrey Bland argues that time is your most valuable asset after your genes, and it only moves one way. He urges you to notice when you're spending it on things that hurt your wellbeing, and to keep asking if you could use those hours for more fun, bliss, or love instead.

The most precious thing we have other than our genes is time. Because we don't get it back. It's a one-way street. If there are ways that we see our time being pulled into things that are either detrimental to our being or not consistent with what we are feeling, doesn't give us that feel-good experience, then we have to ask, how long am I willing to invest in this? I think that there are these decisions about where you put your guidelines and your decision points. But it becomes an operative principle that you're always reflecting back, I could use this time in a different way. I could use this time in a more effective way. I could be having more fun or I could feel more bliss or I could feel more love if I was not doing this.
