Hi, I'm Dr. Katie To, the Wellness Dentist, and welcome to the Wellness Dentist Podcast. dentist podcast. Today we have a very special guest. And not only this guest been so into wellness, holistic dentistry, learned so much and has so much knowledge about this, but he actually been through this journey himself as a patient. And he's here today to share the patient success story.
So.
Hi, Hamid. Welcome.
Good morning, Dr. Katie. Great to be here. Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity today to share the post-surgical experience as well as the preparation as when the day of the surgical experience.
So of course, first of all, we just not wake up and say, I need to go see a holistic biological wellness dentist. Can you share with me how did you start this dental journey into this wellness holistic journey?
Yeah, so I used to be always going to the conventional dentistry part until last year because back in 2015, I started, you know, venturing out into the functional medicine. And functional medicine now these days is also paying attention to the dental side, but not back then. so I worked with several functional practitioners throughout the nation, and they always focus straight on the gut health. So they put me on all kind of protocols after protocols and all functional lab testing. And while you were on the protocol, you felt great the moment you come off the protocols, which are mostly, you know, herbal supplements, and you start to get those symptoms kind of, you know, come back again. So you wonder, there's something missing, you know, so is it. and I'm of the belief that usually you have diet playing a role, toxins, okay, and pathogens. So I took my journey with the help from the practitioners, functional specifically, to kind of rule out which one is it. So diet is easier to fix, right? So you switch out from, hey, non-GMO, go completely organic, you know, if possible, and then the toxins. So, you know, we talk about clean air, clean food, clean water. So clean food and clean water are easier to do, but the clean air is the most challenging. Because so I know your facility over here is surgically clean, but that's not what you get in most of the public places, right? As well as in your homes. So that's where, you know, then that was the next focus and because trying to rule out, okay, what is it? And then the pathogen part. So pathogen part is where, so the thing is the pathogens could have a localized effect or a systemic effect in your body, right? So then after working through each one, then last year I was like, there has to be something else going on which we have missed so far. And then I looked up on the biological dentistry website and looked you up. And then I met you and it was a very thorough evaluation initial two hours. I guess it was a little over two hours. And then you sat down and you did your evaluation and then you sent me to Dr. Don.
That's right.
And after getting my evaluation, I called my wife that, you know, you come in and have the kids also seen by Dr. Katie. So I went to Dr. Don and this is one thing which I have not never heard of, EAV. That's right. So I was familiar with the muscle testing, you know, which most of the chiropractors or the holistic practitioners do, but never had heard of EAV, which is kind of a muscle testing for your dental health. So when you had referred me to Dr. Don, I had no clue with that, you know, how they are able to tell you not just for your dental health, but kind of your whole body assessment. So it was great meeting Dr. Dawn as well, and she did my NB and then so she gave me a kind of quick rundown after it, hey, this is what I'm seeing. And she picked up some things beyond dental and she said, okay, these you can work with your functional doctor and which I did. And then I had questions follow up from Dr. Dawn's findings and then you were generous enough to give me a time here, like, okay, This is what is indicating that on number 17 and number 32, you have cavitations issue. So this goes back to when I had my wisdom tooth extracted. These were in Los Angeles. So I used to live in California back then. And usually when you have the extraction done, wisdom tooth extraction, your body is very smart. It gives you symptoms. And then it's up to you to follow up to those symptoms or mask them, right? And most of the medicine practices around masking symptoms rather than going after the root cause, So likewise back then, I didn't have any functional background or passion about it. So I kind of was part of the regular public and say, okay, it might be something else. So just ignore, but I'm pretty sure body gave me symptoms back then. And then nobody else picked up until I saw you that this could be what is the missing piece of the puzzle. Because remember, like I said, that I had worked with all functional practitioners, environmental medicine practitioners, just to rule out is it toxins, pathogens, where they are hiding in the body. to go after them. So when you propose that this is the procedure you do typically, and so I had to kind of take time to digest. And I was still, because I had a couple other surgeries in the past, and the post-surgical experiences were not that great. These were conventional surgeries, you know, not dental. And I was hesitant. You could tell, right?
So, absolutely.
And then I was like, Dr. Katie, you know, I want to walk through. So I started, I took some of the health in my own hands. I was like, okay, there has to be a certain sequence in which I need to do the detox out of the body. So I started doing that in a sequence, okay, which is kind of nowadays a little well known than it was in the back, you know, back in those years. So I started tackling and I was under the impression that by going through that sequential detox and specifically, you know, taking care of the parasites, bacteria, fungus, and then viruses, retroviruses, I thought that maybe those protocols or the detox will take care of this and I won't have to go under the knife, right? And in between that time, so last year is when I saw you first, but in between that time, I continued my detox protocol, which is usually you stay a month to two month on each kind of phase.
Yes.
And you walk through that and I had my follow-ups with my practitioners, you know, checking on how everything going and all. So because there was a dual-sided benefit of it one, to see if that protocol will take care of this issue. I won't have to go under the knife. And second was it will prep my body by going after and chasing all those healing opportunities to be able to say that, Dr. Katie, now I'm ready for it. I've ruled out all the other things and those are not the ones I thought, let's go do it. So that's when, so after going through that, and so those prepared my body well because your body produces limited amount of energy. Mm-. So that energy, it's either used to heal your body or to fight those infections.
That's right.
So I wanted to make sure that all those infections were cleared out, whatever you were dealing with, because lab testings, you know, on the functional side is not 100% accurate. Sometimes they miss out whether you go for saliva testing, you know, stool testing and all. So I went through those phases and then I was like, okay, so I scheduled, you know, with your friend, your friend staff. I said, Hey, this is the date. I'm ready for it. So the preparation part, you know, before the surgery was kind of making sure, because I was always under the impression that during the surgery, the moment you open up those things, that was done 15 years ago, right? So I knew there will be some kind of hidden pathogens which are gonna get flushed out. So which means your body has to be ready to filter them out, because otherwise you will be dealing with the post-surgical experience would not be that much fun because now your body has to deal with extra burden. I mean, not only the healing part, but now to dump those toxins out. And you know, we have, you can, so all those toxins, you have only certain pathways in the body. You either poop them out, you pee them out, you breathe them out, or you sweat them out. That's right. And anybody who is blocked in any one of these channels, to have those kind of Hirschsprung reactions, you know, or Hirschex. So I did all that prep work by going through that detox sequence to make sure that I don't face any of those challenges. And I was glad I did it, you know? So even though it didn't rule out, and I can tell you now that these cavitations, no matter what kind of supplements or binders, whether localized or systemic, somebody is taking cavitations, those cannot go in and start Taking care of those, those are hidden. So you definitely need somebody like Dr. Katie and Dr. Dawn who could tell you for sure that this is what, and if I take a step back, another thing, so you know, so the entire body, but then another thing which plays a key role in one's health is your sinuses. Okay, so remember I said the clean air part? So no amount of supplements can compete with the amount of air that you anybody breathes throughout the day. And if that air is not clean, I'm talking about whether it's residential, commercial, you know, set up. So your body is burdened with those toxins that are coming through that air. So indoor air quality is what I'm basically referring to, right? So I worked with some of the smartest ENTs in the nation, and they were able to fix my sinus health by telling me that this is the underlying cause, and you need to work on that. And they put me on the.
So.
After basically ruling out any issues on the gut health, systemic health, sinus health, then the next was, let's do the dentistry part, right? And that's where the conventional side is not there yet. And the biological dentistry, I'm fortunate that is helping all patients around the world, like me, to get back in health, you know?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure a lot of listener right now asking, what is cavitation?
Right? Right.
Because some of us know- It was.
Even new to me.
Right.
When I saw you last year.
Yeah. Yeah.
And then now you know what it is. What do you think that is now that you know you've been experienced that in your own word? What is cavitation to you?
So this is like infected leftover bone, okay? Where all kind of bacterias are going. And the longer the time duration that you are given, the worst it is. Because, okay, another thing that I learned from you and Dr. Dawn was the meridian chart.
That's right.
Right.
I had never seen that in any practitioner's office. So what that shows was your whatever teeth we are referring to, but in my case it was 17 and 32, it's linked to all other body organs and glands. So it was impacting those because the functional lab testing was picking up and I'm a root cause person.
Yeah.
But we were not able to find, okay, what is it?
Right?
So that's when I was ready to go, you know, take this route because I had already ruled out everything else, right? so cavitation is even though localized, but it has systemic effects on all over your body. That's right. So in my case, the main things were small intestinal health. So remember I said that all those protocols were working great while two months were like, oh, all those symptoms gone, you know, with specifically the gut health focus, but then they were coming back again. I see. So yeah, it's just, you know, kind of your whenever. So I would suggest that anybody who does those wisdom tooth extraction, be watchful of any symptoms that show up afterwards. and if you're lucky enough to find a biological dentist nearby and wherever you live around the world, go see one or maybe get that appointment before you go to the dentist so they can guide you through, okay, what you need to be watchful of and then have a follow-up whenever you're ready to kind of clean up that site, you know, so that you don't wait and have your body suffer through that extra burden.
Of all those infections, you know? And you did mention in the past, you didn't have a very pleasant post-op experience. That's one of the reason why you're hesitant to begin with. Like, I don't want to go under the knife. I don't want to get a surgery if I can detox and. Yeah, but then you did it. You, when you're ready for it mentally, you're ready for it and you got it done. Tell us about your post-op experience.
Yeah.
So in this one, you know, like, I kind of briefly mentioned that the preparation phase before the surgery. So we covered that detail. So now let's. come to the day of the surgery, right? So another thing I would suggest is most of the conventional side doesn't take into the adrenal glands health also. So before you go for any surgery, so surgery is a stressor to your body, right? That's right. And if your adrenal glands are there to produce that cortisol, which kind of works against that stressor, I kind of put you in a sweet spot, right? For the healing, as well as the anti-inflammatory properties. So I had seen kind of the functional side for adrenal health, but on the conventional side, they do a test. I would suggest everybody who is choosing not just cavitation surgery, but any surgery to do an ACTH test for your adrenal. So where do they check that without any additional adrenal support? Are your glands ready to handle? Okay, so in my case, I had all of that done. and everybody gave me the thumbs up, like you're ready to go. But one thing they proposed, and I would suggest that, even Dr. Dawn, when I saw on the day of the surgery, she said, Hey, that is smart. Who is your endocrinologist, by the way? I said, she has functional kind of background too. And she said, that's smart because my endocrinologist proposed to me that, Hey, the testing wise is all good, but I still suggest you take some hydrocortisone. It's a prescription. So some major surgeries, the surgeon would inject that via IV. But in cases like me, where your glands are producing enough, you don't need it through IV and you can just take a pill couple hours before the surgery. In my case, I took it three hours before, so it was hydrocortisone. I think the other name is cortaf and, but no other supplements, nothing. Because another thing, and Dr. Don told me about it is sometime if you load up on vitamin C before the surgery, the anesthesia doesn't work that much and you have to kind of inject more.
Yeah.
And another piece of advice I want to share is which I went for, I know your office gives you option, you can do the local or the full body. And I chose the local. And I would say that after going through the surgery, I'm fully confident that anybody can handle this surgery under local anesthesia. And another benefit of that is because whatever your body considered this as foreign and it has to extract it, right? So if you do it systemic, it's longer recovery, more burden on your liver, your kidneys, and to filter that out, right? So local, it's faster to get excreted out of your body. So I chose that and I'm glad you were supportive of that part.
Yeah.
So before the surgery, that was the kind of the thing on the day of the surgery. And another thing that came up was the IV before the surgery. But my surgery was on a Monday. So a day before the surgery, the IV option were rare. only available because Sunday most of the places are not open. But some options were available. But then after discussion with my practitioners, so we say, okay, the day of the surgery, specifically post-surgery is more imperative than pre-surgery. So pre-surgery just the, you know, kind of some kind of adrenal support is good enough. And then you come with your calm mind, have a good night's sleep, you know, and then right at the surgery time, I mean, I was already kind of comfortable being in really good hands, you know, Dr. Katie and Dr. Don being there throughout the procedure with me and your staff. Right? So, so I was the guy who has been, like you mentioned, that all post operatives in the past were not so good because in the pre-op they would make it feel like it's a piece of cake and don't give you all like, hey, this is what other additional things you could do to prep your body. So you just walk out with just some prescriptions and it's like, okay, just show up on the day of surgery.
Right.
But not really a full details about the post-operative one. But over here, your staff, yourself, I'm sure you can tell that I was the guy who was asking all kind of questions. I would come in on every appointment or every consultation with a sheet full of, you know, questions.
Yeah.
And then ask you one by one. And you were always generous to give you time to answer those queries. So during the surgery, I had the most amazing experience, right? During as well as post. So during, because while you were doing the, the extraction, right? Dr. Dawn was holding my hand and she was doing some acupuncture.
Acupuncture point, right?
And I'm sure that played a big role because she told me as well as you mentioned that, hey, if you feel anything besides pressure, let us know. And there was one moment I recall that I had, I think you did my right first and then you went to the other side. And Dr. Dawn told me, if you squeeze my hand, that will be your signal because I was, I couldn't talk while you were operating. But in between, we were chatting. Three of us were chatting, right? So I had this this influx of energy, massive energy influx.
Yeah.
Okay. The moment you were just done with this, it was a moment as if some circuit just got linked back. Like there was some missing impulse, you know, it got connected, and I squeezed.
That hand, you know?
Yeah.
And Dr. Don was like, hey, hey, you know, he did it, and there is probably something additional. So at that time, I couldn't say it, but. after when you were done, I said, this is what I felt.
Amazing. Right?
That's also the benefit of doing under local anesthesia and not when you're out.
Yes.
You got to experience that reconnection, that energy rush.
Yes.
Back in the circus.
Right. Right.
So that was like the first aha moment, you know, like, hey. And then the other part, I think you and Dr. Don were capturing the live EAV, which is another incredible tool. because you could see that action live, right? Hey, the scores over there, because now I know a little bit about the EAV after learning from you and Dr. Don that, hey, your scores are between 48 to 52 and 50 is kind of your sweet spot.
Exactly.
And another thing I think I forgot to mention was EAV is the only tool you and Dr. Don mentioned to me, and I totally agree, which accurately predicts the cavitation issues. you could go do all these other scans. CT. And then there is a, I think I had mentioned it came up in my functional training cavitate. I think it's probably something right. But those still miss out. So I would suggest everybody that, and if they're seeing you, you're gonna send them for EAV anyways.
That's right.
To get that done. And specifically during your first two hour initial consultation, right? and because otherwise you miss out that opportunity, you know. So, yeah, so during that, so after that moment, that influx of that great positive energy, I was like, wow, this is, so that was probably what I was missing for last 15 years, right?
15 years.
Yeah.
So because I'm sure body gave me symptoms back then, but, you know, you always think, oh, there's might be something else. Nobody can correlate it back to, it might be the extraction, wisdom teeth extraction, which was done recently, right? You start going, seeing, based on your symptoms, X, Y, Z specialist. And they'll probably, you know, you walk out with a, like they say, a pill for every ill kind of, you know, methodology. And then you mask the symptom and you say, okay, things cleared out and you say, okay, one less worry, right? And then about the, so during surgery, local anesthesia, awesome. And then with the live EAV, when you, and you kept cleaning it up until we saw the score held constant 50. And I remember, and this is like you just alluded to, the great benefit of being in local anesthesia, that I was still conscious being able to listen and feel what the changes your body immediately is getting into, all positive. And so when we saw, and I think you did, hey, let's check second time to make sure. And then it was still, you know, I think it was, if I remember the curve, it was like at the bottom, whatever was on the scale, and then 50. right? And then you tested it again and it said 50. It said, okay, we are done. Congratulations.
Right? Yeah.
And then the things that you do in your office, right? Which you did, you know, personally on me, you did the.
Bio modulation.
Correct. And then the ozone. Ozone water.
That's right. Ozone water. Ozone gas.
Yes.
Yeah.
And then the laser.
Pulser laser.
Yes.
That was awesome.
Yeah.
You know that. very high intensity pulsation with the laser light. I think that, and I think you did PRF before the laser or after the laser?
After the laser, it's cleaning everything out, then we put it back into your cell pack into the site so your body can start the healing immediately.
Correct. So the PRF and with the combination of all these, you have this well written protocol because that's what you gave me out, right, when the surgical procedure was proposed. So on that one, I'll tell you that with combination of all those modalities that you did, you know, right within the surgical proceduRe, I didn't have any bleeding, no bleeding because usually in all you get a sinus surgery, you get any other surgery, the post-operative bleeding is every physician's concern, right? And in my case, I think you had given me detailed discharge instruction and it did mention, and in the kit you had given some tea packets, right, to put in all and I didn't end up using any of them. Probably need to use them just for drinking tea rather than, you know, so that was great because I was worried, you know, for first 48 hours so I was paying you know, like, okay, if anything else, just looking in the mirror, but nothing, no bleeding at all. And then, so right after, so you had given me a card for a IV clinic locally here. So I inquired with them a week before the surgery because Sunday I was already sure that I don't want to get an IV on Sunday, but post-surgical was imperative. So I called them and inquired about, they said, we have these off-the-shelf options, which we recommend to every patient post-surgery, I said, Dr. Katie is the one who gave me this, oh, we are very familiar with them and their stuff, and she herself comes here and all. So I was like, okay, so I'm in good hands even on that side, which gave me the confidence to go forward with them. And so I told them, based on my functional knowledge and going through the training myself, I said, Can I customize it? They said, Of course, the cost goes a little bit high, but that's fine. the less do that. So because they're off the shelf had B vitamins, glutathione, high dosage vitamin C and magnesium. So those four, definitely everybody needs. Okay. And when I say high vitamin C dosage is 25 gram.
Gram.
Exactly. And even in your pre, let's say one week before you gave a really good quality lipo.
Some over, right?
Yeah. And Dr. Don had already EAV tested. So I strongly suggest that whatever vitamin C any of your patient is going for, get it EAV tested so that your body is compatible with it.
That's right.
Because, you know, it might be a different manufacturer or different kind of vitamin C would. Your body would be more, you know, compatible with. But in my case, Dr. Don had already tested green signal on it.
Yeah.
And I picked up those from, like, a week before the surgery. So I took, and it was three gram, and most of the bodies can handle three gram before you get into diarrhea, you know, because all these have to go through the stomach, right? But the IV bypasses that. So you could go very high dosage on the IV option.
That's right.
And this particular clinic that I went to, and I'm sure any clinic where they could offer beyond 25 gram, but then they have to do some testing.
That's right.
You know, to say, okay, what is the maximum? But in my case, I chose 25 gram is enough because I have been on vitamin C's, on and off, on and off regular basis, you know, just for kind of maintenance, health maintenance. So I went there and I customized, I added a couple other things like I was mentioning. So I said, hey, for bone health, we need minerals. So they said, okay, we'll add trace minerals. Then I said, I need some aminos. They said, yes, you know, because you need to bump up your protein intake.
That's right.
Even diet wise. So I did that. And then there were two couple other things that I added and And then I was there two hours after the surgery and the IV was hour and a half. So in between that time, you and Dr. Don had given me homeopathic remedy. Homeopathic remedy.
Right?
So I started that right away because remember the rule of thumb you had given me is don't wait until the anesthesia wears off and you are in too much pain.
That's right.
So I followed that and I took the first dosage right here before I walked out. And it was like every hour you keep doing those drops under sublingual. and I'm telling you that plus the IV. So I had no pain sensation by the bedtime on day one. So this was Monday, right? So Monday by bedtime, no pain, which was unbelievable because I was worried.
You had Duppo surgery.
Yes. Right.
So I was worried that pain would kick in. And you had given me, you know, Maya, you know, just who helped us through the, from your staff. She explained to me, she went over the, you know, like, right. Hey, this is. this is for pain, this is homeopathic remedy, this is Arnica, and then here's some tea bags in case and gosh, you know, in case bleeding happens and all. So a lot of things I didn't end up using, you know, for a good reason.
That's right.
But the Arnica and the homeopathic remedy and the IV. So I'm talking about day of surgery, right? That's right. So those were the only things I was on. And I need to give credit to your red light therapy lamp. Yes. Amazing piece of equipment, okay? And I'm sure that's a pro version. And I don't think anybody can buy that outside because those will be small, you know, kind of, I looked up myself, looked up myself, and those were like the one that go in, you know, kind of sit in, but you needed more exposure to the whole gland of lymphatic.
That's right. To the whole gland of lymphatic.
Correct.
And that size.
Yeah, I learned some word from Dr. Don, like ganglia, right? So although, so that thing, even if you put it over here, the intensity of that is pretty, it covers a lot of area, you know? So I did that, I think your instructions were, I do it three to four times a day. So, so I did that day of surgery and then next two weeks. Okay. So this is what we were capturing on the day of surgery. So then by bedtime, there was no pain. And here's the unbelievable part. Swelling, right? Usually you would expect every surgery would have. no matter what part of the body you had surgery on. And with the dental, okay, because I had a history of maxillofacial jaw surgery also.
That's right.
You did.
It was intense.
Monk, right? So, but if I knew all these tools.
That's right.
Back in 20, you know, I mean, the time when I did those. So you could use those red light, the post IVs and all that and, and have a better healing experience, you know? but all the conventional side didn't tell me anything back then. But anyways, that's past time. So on next day when I woke up, so I followed all that, but I didn't introduce any other detox supplements yet because you want to focus on healing. You want to divert that energy, your body energy into the healing.
Healing, yes.
Because first three to five days are crucial and you and Dr. Don made it clear to me during surgery as well as in a kind of a pre-op discussion, you know, take time off from work. Okay. That is key because you want to give that chance to your body to heal.
To heal.
Because I call that acute healing phase, you know, that three to five days window. After that, you're all clear.
Right.
And then, you know, you pay attention to the nutrient dense foods that you're eating post surgery. because you won't be able to chew and bite. So you had asked me to stock up on some kind of Bon broth nutrient nutrient focus on nutrient dense food. You know, Bon brought some really good antioxidants, rich smoothies and then soups, you know, whether you're a vegetarian or meat eater. So load up on, you know, because doesn't matter which way you choose, you're still giving nutrients, you know, to your body. And at that time they need it. And then I still added. So this on the day of surgery, because vitamin C, I mean the cocktail, IV cocktail had already given a big boost, right? So I didn't want to give other oral supplements that day, so I took a break and I was only doing the homeopathic remedy and then Arnica for two days. And next day I thought that, hey, there not much visible swelling. There was very minor on day one and it was gone by the bedtime on day one itself, right? And then next morning I woke up, I had minor one on the left side and then I realized like, okay, what probably I missed and I forgot to have my head elevated a little bit. Okay? And so that will be a lesson learned that if you don't want any swelling, make sure you have your head raised, you know, on the night, the first night post-surgery, then you won't even have swelling. If you didn't have any swelling on day one, then there should not be any reason for it to come back on day two. And then I continued all that. And then right from day two onwards, so even with these foods and not solid foods, I was like, there's these systemic effects which are starting to show up, right? So the first night, usually I take liposomal melatonin to kind of, you know, help with the sleep because all of us with full-time jobs, your mind is always wrestling with thoughts about next day and all. And, you know, so you have two categories of people, one having hard time to fall asleep or second. is staying asleep. Staying asleep, right? So I used to be in the category, hard time falling asleep and liposomal melatonin used to be, and I knew the root cause was just mind racing with thoughts and all. So liposomal melatonin was my, hey, just whatever dosage your body likes, you know, liposomal gets you that you can raise it up or lower it down. But post-surgery, I did not use any melatonin at first, and I was like, hey, I've taken off from work, so it's fine if I get to sleep a little late, right? so I took the chance. And the good thing was my body did not require any melatonin. So these things even had a positive effect on the sleep quality, you know? So I slept like a baby post surgery, you know, all entire week before I returned to work. And then I said, okay, maybe I need to go back on the melatonin, you know?
Yeah.
But even if I would have skipped it, but.
Right. Right.
Like two hours post dinner, I'm already getting that. melatonin flush kind of naturally in the body. I could tell that, but I was still like, hey, let's just use it. Okay, so it's a sleep and then the energy level.
Energy level.
Okay. And then third thing I want to say is brain fog. So brain fog just cleared like you had a clear mind.
Yeah. Right.
Because just think about it, all these things sitting here for 15 years in my case, we're having some effect, right? How far they are away from, right?
Two inches.
Yeah.
So that had an effect because like I said, that I had ruled out all these other pathogenic options, you know, working with the functional doctors. And it was like, there's nothing else there, right? So, but this had that connection. Sinuses definitely had the connection for brain fog and all, but dental also played a role. So now that, so if we go back to, if we cleared that, clear this. So now your body was, okay, now I know what to do with the energy, right? So you had extra energy.
Yeah.
To put into repair healing.
Right?
So that was the experience I was feeling throughout those three to five days acute healing phase. Okay. And then another thing I was always on was digestive enzymes. Okay. And then some kind of a stomach acid support, which is B-10 SCL or some kind of digestive bitters.
Right.
Some people, not everybody can do both because that will be an overkill. So you either go digestive bitters or you go digestive. I mean, B-10 SCL. and because as we age, your stomach acid production goes down. So it's wise to kind of start supporting that before it's too late. Because, you know, on the conventional side, most everybody is thinking with acid reflux, it means acid is very high. And it's the actually the opposite.
The opposite.
It's the low stomach acid which causes all that.
That's right.
But anyways, that will be another topic. But for the, what I'm mentioning about to mention is I didn't have a need for digestive enzymes. I didn't have a need for the meat and SEL or bears. Okay, so these things were impacting the small intestinal health. Okay. Because without those, the digestion process were dependent on that, these pathogens. And you took beautiful samples and you showed it to me during the surgery that, Hey, look, I think you had like a glass slide on which you showed me and maybe you can explain, you know?
Yeah. Right? Yeah.
So those things, I mean, just by the look, I could tell the report is going to come back ugly.
Yeah, it was not supposed to be there, right?
Yeah. Yeah.
You know, so your body has all these layers of defenses, right? Like we say, stomach acid and then you have bile. So two layers of protection for all these pathogens to go past. But if you have low stomach acid and your bile issue, these things, they run right through. And that is usually most of the people are impacted with. But these things don't need to, they can go through the nerves, right? So they end up and you have, depending on whichever side you have that extraction, just based on the meridian chart, whoever did that is really incredible piece of work.
That's right. It's a really long-term study proven in both the Eastern and Western medicine. So yeah, it's called acupuncture according to Vogt. It's a German doctor and scientist, but also when you look at the acupuncture meridian, is also showing the same thing. So the sign was there for thousands of years just to implement it correctly and to understand the connection. And next would be what action to take. I mean, what you just mentioned, the energy, the brain fog, the sleep, the GI issue.
Right.
You know how many patients walk in here or, like, going to see functional and that exactly on their list?
Yes.
Yeah.
I have foggy brain. I'm fatigued.
Yeah.
I can't sleep. my gut not well. Right.
Exactly. And nobody would have a clue that dental health could be playing the role. The role. All these systemic issues, right? And you know, there was a term that they coined was adrenal fatigue. Adrenal fatigue, yeah.
It's more like a bucket diagnosis to.
A lot of people. Exactly, exactly. And now, you know, I'm glad that it's most of the practitioner, both functional as well as on the conventional side are saying we don't no longer recognize that term. Because like you just for the reason you said, so yeah, so the gut health, significant improvement there because even with digestive enzymes and the B10 SEL, everybody had that natural tendencies because those things are not that broad spectrum. They're depending on, hey, if you're traveling and my work always had the travel component in it, so I could be international, you know, various parts of the world. and your food change, your water changes, your air quality. So remember those food, air, water. So the moment those change, you know, there is a field of epigenetics, right? So your body, so you have your gut is where the symptoms come first.
Yes.
So I used to have that tendency of bloating post, you know, and occasional flatulence. And after this surgery, I think I mentioned to you when I came to see you two weeks later on my follow up, yeah. Like my tummy has been the flattest ever. Okay.
A lot of patients, that alone would be enough.
Right.
That was worth the cost of the surgery. And so the gut health, I would say that that's where the major significance. I mean, the other things that I pay, hey, everybody ought to be able to sleep well because that's when your body goes into repair mode.
Yeah.
And if you think about it, if, if you're just, hey, four hours a night, three hours a night and all, you just keep on kicking that can down the road.
That'S right.
Yeah.
Your repair is just being tap into reserve.
Right. More.
Yeah, exactly. So just, I mean, you can take example of your car, right? Symptoms start up. You just like, hey, this fine. We'll ignore it. And then you have a big mechanical.
Breakdown, and then the mechanic gives you a big check.
Or me, we'll total the car.
Yeah.
So same thing on the body. Right now, bodies are very smart. They give you symptoms, but then it's.
Up to you whether you mask them.
Or you look for the root cause. And you're always the root cause, guys, and I'm always the latter option, you know?
Yeah.
So the small intestinal, I mean, the gut overall gut health improvement. And then another thing, bowel movements. Okay. Constipation, because these microbes play a big role in your, what you call colon health.
That's right.
So remember, like I was telling you, that all these toxins, you have those four pathways to excrete. And if you are constipated, just imagine these get recirculated then.
Because toxic.
Yeah. Yeah. So.
So bile is very expensive for our body to produce. So it's, and that's where you bring in binders to bind toxins from it because your body has a natural tendency to kind of put it back in recirculation, right? So that's your chance to pick all those toxins from getting into recirculation and excrete. But if you're constipated, then the binders are not doing much, right? So rule number one for any detox, all functional practitioners, you know, say the same thing these days. no constipation.
That's right.
So I'll suggest every patient, no matter what surgery, but today's focus is on cavitation. So post those five days post surgery, which is your acute healing phase, no constipation allowed because you have the reports now. So you can tell that all those things had to be excreted from your body because the moment you open those up and you clean them out, but they get flushed into the body internally. And the reports are reflective of the scale. I think if I remember where you said the lab that you sent to, they had like anything above nine was- Great risk.
Right?
Yeah, huge risk. And there were a lot of reds. A lot of reds. I mean, some were off the chart.
It's a PCR test also, so very accurate.
Very accurate, right?
Yeah.
So I love the fact that you're connected with that lab and you have.
To test what you extracted or excavated or removed.
Yeah.
So patient also know what was there.
Right.
And what would possibly need to be detoxed out.
Correct.
Yeah.
Another thing. So when I walked out of here, I think I. I don't know if I mentioned. So, you know, when those toxins are immediately kind of released from 15 years of hold up, your body knows what's foreign, what needs to be there.
Right.
So those toxins. So my kidneys were already on overdrive for the. three, four hours. So between leaving your clinic to IV and then post IV and the IV guys are telling me that, hey, you're going to be peeing a lot.
Yeah.
Later, later in the evening.
Yeah.
I was like, man, my thing already started.
Yeah.
So basically your kidneys were already kicking. Trying to like, hey, you know, both combination, all those pathogens plus whatever, whatever else was kind of, you know, all the junk which was hidden there. So, so that's why the key part is the preparatory phase. because the reason I was able to have that good experience.
Because you opened all the channels.
I opened all the channels. Yes.
Colon, the kidney, the liver.
Right.
And the cell level. So therefore you don't have anything holding you back.
And I used to do sauna, you know, a couple of sessions every week. I didn't do any the week of the surgery because the reason is you wanted to make those vital results of your body focused towards healing.
That's right.
You But I went back to that schedule one week later.
After, yeah.
Because at that time, I was like, I don't want to be dealing with any more detox than the body is already going through. And you and Dr. Don had already given me the homeopathic remedy, which is customized to you. So when I saw Dr. Don post surgery, I think on the follow-up appointment, and before she says that to me, I told her that, Dr. Don, I have a feeling that that homeopathic remedy was doing a lot of detox also. Yes. Localized detox. Yes. She said, how do you know? I said, my body felt that.
Yeah.
Because I didn't put on my other binders. Yes. Which are not localized. They are systemic. They clean up everywhere they go from. They even cross the blood brain barrier. Yeah. And pick up toxins from there. So I was prepared to launch them, but I was waiting for the time to be even my body is Giving me the sign that, hey, I'm ready to, you know, take them. But then I was like, so without those my other binders, it has to be your remedy doing some magic, right?
Yeah.
And she was like, Yes, it does that. So even she was kind of, you.
Know, you have a very gifted, I would say, understand what your body like, you're very internal. Internal, yeah. Because a lot of patients, they don't have that gift or they're not tuned in enough to notice that's what the body experience. They don't connect the dot. Like when you're in the chair, when you're holding her hand and you're like, I feel like the energy connected. To me, so many patients told us that in a chair, we actually have people bust out crying. Like, we're like, Whoa, what happened? Yeah, emotional release. So for you, it's an energy reconnected. For some others, we experience in a chair that they're just crying, regardless male or female patient. And we're asking, Is it pain? They're like, no, no pain whatsoever. I just could not hold this back. And to us, it's could be emotional associated with that. Some patient, they remember vividly what happened to that tooth or that site when they went through that procedure. Like, oh yeah, I was pregnant with my child, I have an emergency, my tooth hurting. Or someone say, yeah, I have a bicycle accident, and I got that tooth knocked out, and I get end up with the root canals, and now I have an infection. So it's almost like tied with the trauma. For sure. Could be emotional, could be physical, but when you see that release, be honest with you, early on my career as a biological dentist, I'm a bit more like, what is going on? Like, because I'm not the person experience it, I'm the person that witness it.
Right.
But the person experience the patients and it's amazing what they.
I'm sure, you know, because you have that surgery day every week.
Yeah.
And you're doing it on multiple patients in a day. I can totally understand everybody has their own personal.
That's right.
Way of expressing what they felt.
Right. Yeah.
And I'm sure it's all positive because you're laying up a really key role for their health by taking all that infected jawbone out and then cleaning up that side with all those tools. Because like I said, that no binders can go in there and clean up that, you know.
Not through those layer of bones. And just that you remind a lot of our audience and listener, when you're healing from the order, it had to be from the top down and from inside out.
Yes.
Right?
Skin problem is a gut problem. And so.
So for me, I never used any lotions, creams, anything on my skin because I always believed in it is your internal, you know, internal cleansing.
That's right.
Rather than external, you know, layers of natural glowing.
Yeah. So.
But then what happened was with all these unlucky exposures, you know, from environmental environmental, like, you know, go back to the air. water and food, those started impacting skin health as well.
Right.
And I think you were the one who noticed my skin glowing, you know, post to the end during the follow up. That was, that was something that I didn't notice myself because I was, I was more focused on the other.
How's your gut not constipated? How's you not being bloated? And that actually show on your skin.
Yes.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Because, I mean, your colon health, it plays a big role.
Yeah.
Because that is your last step for excess. So, you know, so you have water-soluble toxins which go through the filter through the kidneys and out the urine. And then you have the others which goes through the stool.
That's right.
So your liver decides which way.
Which pathway to take.
Yeah.
And if you have your colon health in excellent shape, meaning they say that, hey, how many times you should go, you know, how many bowel movements a day, they say the number of meals is good. But if you tell somebody three bowel movements, they will say, oh, maybe it's a diarrhea, right? But I'm talking about normal, normal bowel movements. So if he can get three, awesome.
But that's what people do.
One to two, for sure.
My daughter, she's 18 months old, right? Every time she eats, that's when she passed. And we're thinking, oh, that's only baby. But no, that's how everyone is.
See, over time, we tend to forget.
Which is hold up.
We tend to forget that. And you were like, one a day is enough. And then it's like, oh, one every other day is probably still okay.
Right?
American are very constipated.
Oh, yeah, I can tell you. And then, and then everybody has that habit of using coffee or any coffee as a way to kind of use that to get that, you know, bowel movement first thing in the morning. But I'll tell you. So when I came to us, I got into the habit of black coffee, but very quickly I realized that black coffee was giving me acid reflux issues. So, like, root cause thinking for me. So I. I have that investigative mind, you know, it's like, okay, I've seen doctors and all, but there are some things I can do even myself at home. Okay, what is it? Is it. So I always put it those three categories. It has to be either food or toxins or pathogens. So I can't do the toxin in the passenger. There's something in diet really quickly. Right. Okay, what did I just started when this happened? go back in time and say, okay, maybe that might trigger it. And then you go off that particular, you know, eliminated.
Right.
Like in the functional world, they say elimination diet.
Yeah.
Which is like free of cost at your home. Or you can pay the money and get your food sensitivity test.
So. Yeah.
So that's when I was like, okay, so I'm talking about without any caffeine intake, still able to get one to two bowel movements daily. So which tells me that. your body doesn't really need caffeine support to get you there as long as your colon health is optimal.
That's right.
Yeah.
And so share with the listener a bit about how passionate you are about this, that you actually take the next step to learn to be a functional provider.
Right, right. So going through my own health challenges, and I always had this investigative mind, and going through my own journey, because I kind of gave up on the conventional side back in 2015 after seeing every specialist head to toe. And I was like, okay, and the functional guys gave me, gave me that, let's say, the healing options. I said, okay, maybe this is the field I need to focus more on. And, and then I started listening to all, you know, summits. So I would sign up for summits and do a lot of readings online or books, wherever recommended reading show Mm-. Then I got this call.
Downloading.
Yeah, I said downloading, right?
Yeah.
Hey, you know, there are a lot of people around the world who are probably going through similar experiences. And if I can get the training required and be able to help others, you know, and save them from doing a lot of the same mistakes that I made, you know, like, hey, keep banging the door on the conventional side several times and expect the same results, you know? so another thing is, you know, the interest and then the one Journey combination of two. And then when the call came in, I was like, okay, because Dental part was kind of the last step. So now. So I. I started my training.
Yeah.
And I'm kind of 60 there.
There. Yeah.
And so if everything goes well, I'll be certified, you know, either late this year or early next year.
That's awesome.
But.
But my Mantra is going to be. So, you know, on the functional side, they say gut health first, right? But my mantra is going to be environment first, sinuses, dental, and then we go to gut.
That's it.
So basically, what do you said, top down?
Top down, right?
Because, yeah, gut health is important, but if you start directly from the gut, you're not tackling the root cause.
No.
Okay. And you're going to get back into those symptoms back again as you come off that particular protocol. The protocol might be the best in the world of design, so it's nothing to blame on the protocol, but it's the sequence.
The sequence, you know, yeah, it's the.
Order, the order that you go through. So that's why environmental play, because that's where you're sniffing in all kind of toxins. So you make sure you have that taken care of. And then even on the living side, right? I mean, the food, like I said, is easy to tackle. Water. Water plays a key role, right? Hydration. So for the, and for the water side, you know, everybody has the RO systems, hopefully a bare minimum, but RO, it depletes all minerals. So then your body suffers. So then it's. So what do you do is now they have those setups where you demineralize and then drink that water, you know, so spring water at a minimum. And if you have auto water, then add some minerals to it to replete what has been depleted and use that. So, yeah, so basically. my own journey throughout these, let's say, close to nine years.
Nine years.
Right.
And then my interest into with the investigative mind, like, and then you're always, always being into like, hey, there has to be a root cause. I mean, and then another part is, you know, a lot of people will say that most of the time you're not able to find the root cause. So my approach was, that's fine. You know, if the lab testing is not there, which can pick it. at least you go through that order and you're ruling out one at a time that, hey, maybe it was parasites, maybe it was bacteria, maybe it was fungus, retroviruses, any other- maybe it was cavitation. Yes. And then in the end, you know, it's like, okay, so dental health. And now it's like, okay, we checked every single box and everything got cleared out of the body. But here's the part, you know, so detox is an ongoing journey. It is an ongoing journey. You know, so gone is the time where you would say that, hey, do those detox 30-day protocol once a year kind of deal.
It's a lifestyle.
It's a. Yes, it's a lifestyle. 100 agree.
Yeah.
So you have to. Because every day we are exposed to so many toxins every single day. Now it's. A lot of practitioners start calling toxic world, you know.
Yeah.
And your organ systems were not built or designed for this kind of environment.
Right.
We're not involved in that order yet.
Right, right. So based on that, you know, so. So I'm of the opinion that it's an ongoing journey. Stick to it because 30 days once a year is not good enough, you know, to be able to get back in that health.
Healing takes time.
It takes time.
It takes time for you to figure it out. But now you learn the sequence, you learn from the experience, the protocol pre, during, post.
Right.
And you're ready to help others.
Yes.
Yes.
That's awesome.
And yeah, so I'm looking forward to that. getting certified and then being able to put everybody in the right order of the sequence to go through. So that way you're not having to redo a lot of things back again, you know.
I noticed a lot of wellness, holistic provider, they have their own healing journey and that's either them or their loved one, their kid or their spouse or their parents. Someone in your life, including yourself, is that person have to go through the suffering.
Right.
For you to come on the other side and say, okay, now I can help other people so they don't suffer anymore.
Yeah.
So it's almost like that thing happened for you.
That's so. Yes. That's what it is. So, Dr. Katie, this is one thing I've experienced, all functional practitioners. And I don't know if it's only functional, but I do want to add holistic health practitioners, too. I've noticed this trend that both those domains, the practitioner himself or herself, has gone through that, and then they get there.
That's right.
Then they get that calling.
Yes. Yes.
So it's really amazing, you know?
Yeah.
But on the other side, on the conventional, I've never heard these kind of stories, right? Where, hey, what prompted you to be on this side helping out others? So, but on the holistic health and the functional health, I have never come across somebody who just say, oh, I just did, I just graduated and now I'm helping others, you know? they had their own health challenges. They healed themselves and now they are ready to heal others. That's usually the theme I've always heard.
That's right.
Yeah.
Every guest on our podcast have actually the same story. Is that their children or themselves or their spouse or someone they love dearly that happened to them and conventional medicine could not help. So they turn to functional and they start asking questions that dig deeper. And here we are.
Yes. you know, so the, on the conventional side, one thing I want to add is because a lot of people, when they start saying, hey, conventional is where you tried your level best in getting your answers or help. But one thing where the conventional plays a big role is acute illnesses.
That's right.
So, so I want to definitely leave that kind of difference that for acute, acute illnesses, emergency medicine, you need, you need that. you know, but on the chronic illnesses, things you have been dealing for months and years and you have been knocking door of every practitioner. That's where the holistic and the functional approach is way ahead of the conventional side. You know, I'm sure you probably, you know, listen something similar from other, other patients, you know, but that's the key. I mean, that's where my rule of thumb is that, hey, if it's anything acute, I'm going there, you know?
Yeah.
But if it's anything chronic that either someone in the family or friend or let's say down the road when I start seeing, you know, clients, then I'll be able to tell them, hey, this is what you keep in mind. Acute, go there. Chronic, let's meet.
Yeah.
And I'm sure to close the episode, of course, we talked about this before that there's a difference between the patient that got the healing and the patient that really stuck is not just the physical illness or the physical problem. I've seen a lot of patients that get amazing transformation like you and people that we experience in the practice is the mindset.
Mindset, yes.
Not giving up, not stop asking questions, not stop digging and not finding excuse, not doing something. Oh no, it's so hard. My schedule is too busy. I can't eat healthy. oh, no, you know, I just had to stay in the house with mold. I can't move. I mean, once people find excuse, they.
Stop doing, you know, one thing that.
I need to do.
One thing I learned from holistic practitioners is also, so I've gone to every, what do you call, every domain of medicine, you know?
Yeah.
And so, and I'll say that every branch did something for me, you know, because I learned from them and they give me some healing, different aspect. So basically, so it, you know, like, like there is a saying, it takes a village, you know, so.
Yeah.
But on the holistic side, there's one thing. So just to add on to what you said, I learned is what you say and what you think also impacts your health.
Of course. Your body listened to all of it.
Right.
So I think it says that it stays it coded in your body, you know. So some of that, I think you probably mentioned in our conversation, the emotions. So those get trapped in your body. Mm-. And then later down the road, we impact emotions, trauma.
That's right. You know?
Yeah. So that's sometimes, so let's say if somebody, you know, has done like myself, you know, checked all the boxes, you've done your gut health, your other systemic body issues, you took care of your sinus health, your dental health, and then, okay, what else? And that, what else is go for emotional and trauma.
That's right.
Yeah.
Because those might be, I'm so happy to hear that.
Those might be your hidden pieces. Yeah, this is, I'm so happy to hear that as a functional provider, and you are on your journey to help others, that's a big part to remind people.
Yeah.
That's a really big part. So thank you so much.
Thanks a lot for having me over here and giving me the opportunity to share my healing journey post-surgical.
No, it's magical to hear the before and after and the fact that what you learn from your own healing journey can, you know what, one day or very soon impacting our protocol too. We're going to add this.
Yes.
IV same day.
Yes, I would highly encourage the IV. post. I mean, this day of surgery, day of surgery, depending on whether it's morning or afternoon, you know? Yeah.
So, because that definitely played. We're always learning. Dr. Dawn and I, we're so thankful because we're seeing patient like you who's sharing us that your healing experience. And we're like, wow, that's great.
We should add that on the protocol. We already talked to each other about that. So, yeah. So even if you ask any, any functional practitioners who have done this for 40 years, they'll be on a podcast and they'll say it's every day is still learning. It's learning. Yeah, it never ends. and then I want to also mention that, so your practice is beyond dentistry, you know? Because, so when I came over right last year, you walk in with just the mindset that, oh, I'm just seeing a dentist, but no, you know. So anybody who shows up in your clinic should come with that mindset that, no, I'm not seeing a dentist or even put with the word biological dentistry, because you and Dr. Don way beyond the dentistry. You are able to provide the missing links or guide them, you know, that, hey, you need to go see this person XYZ because our evaluation is showing that those are your bottom necks where you have not been able to achieve optimal health. You know, I really appreciate that part.
Thank you. That's why we're so proud to be a part of the team. That's why we said every patient needs a team like a village. And we are part of that very tight village. where, you know, ENT, functional MD, right?
Yes.
And all that GI specialists and endocrinologists, like we all are part of that team. And so we're very thankful. And a part of being a dentist and being a part of that team really make my job and what I'm doing every day super rewarding. So thank you for sharing that. I appreciate it. Thank you for coming on.
Yes.
I'm glad to be here and thank you so much again for the chance.
Yes. So please subscribe and follow for more episode, more story like coming, cavitation, recovering, success. And thank you so much for the time. We learned so much and please stay tuned for the next episode.
Thanks for listening to the Wellness Dentist Podcast. We hope you enjoyed the show. Please rate and review and remember, there's always a reason to smile.
