Dr. Katie To argues SMART protocol is a baseline, not best practice. The Protect Protocol goes further by adding pre-removal detox, heavy-metal urine testing, and post-procedure nutrient support for better outcomes.

SMART set the standard for rub it in, which is isolation, suctions, body covering, chocos, all of that. It's the floor. It's the minimum. Like, that's something you should have anyway in your practice. But I can tell you that been doing this for a decade, would not consider that the gold standard. I would consider the Protect Protocol by the IBDM because it's everything that included in SMART, plus you're going to have the pre-removal detox. You can have the body burden testing as a baseline, which is a heavy metal urine challenge test. And you want to make sure that you have the nutrient support post-procedure also.
