Dr. Katie To explains peg laterals, naturally small or pointy side teeth that create gaps even after braces. Composite bonding adds resin to build them to normal size without removing healthy tooth structure, fixing the problem in one simple procedure.

If you've ever been told that your side front teeth are too small, this one's for you. Peg laterals are the two teeth on either side of the central incisors, and some people are born with them naturally smaller or pointy. It's actually a pretty common condition, and it can make the smile look uneven or leave noticeable gaps even after orthodontic treatment. Sometimes patients have had their braces and their teeth are perfectly straight, but those two side teeth are just undersized and it still doesn't look quite right. Sometimes patients are just congenitally missing those teeth altogether, and we can use bonding on those adjacent teeth to close that space beautifully. This is one of my favorite things to do with composite bonding because it's so non-invasive. We're not cutting down healthy tooth structure. We're simply adding it to what's already there, building the tooth out to a natural proportionate size that fits your face and your smile. That transformation is significant, and the process is pretty straightforward. If peg laterals have been something that you've noticed or felt self-conscious about, come in for a consult. It's very fixable.
