Dr. Katie To won't do gum graft surgery until she finds what caused the recession in the first place. Airway problems, clenching, grinding, or aggressive brushing will just make it come back. Fix the root cause first or the graft fails.
I keep saying, number one, you have to find the root cause and address it. I won't do surgery on a patient if I don't know the reason why they have this recession in the first place, because what's going to happen is they're going to end up going home doing the exact same thing that they've always been doing, not getting anything addressed like their airway issues, their clenching, grinding, their aggressive brushing, and then all my surgery will go to waste. They're going to go home and then you're just going to get recession all over again.
