With your program, if I hadn't have paid for it, I don't think I would have woke up every morning to do it because I wasn't a morning person. And every morning I think I had to be on like 5 AM or 6 AM, and I would get up, you know, I would be on the call.
Yes.
I told myself I was determined that I was going to, you know, listen and do whatever you had to do to see if it was really going to work because I'm a skeptical So I figured if I do it and it doesn't work well, then I'm going to tell you it doesn't work. Well, the sales went up, the unit volume went up. We did our unit club and it just seemed like everything started to fall into place because I was taking the action and I wasn't doubting myself or that negative.
We had our largest month ever, over $158,000.
Wow.
It was done in one month and her commission check was over $23,000. In one month?
In just one month? Wow.
Well, the goal was, you know, setting the goals and then going after it. And the hugest goal was being, you know, the number one in the quarter sales for the director. So each month I really had to use and focus on your activity to keep me, you know, in the right frame of mind. And we, we blew past— we, I think we beat the company record of having the most sales for the year and went on to be the number one in the director quota sales. So that was awesome.
That's wonderful.
It was the affirmations, and then I was looking at Sheila and how she was taking it in, and, and it was just— you could tell that it was something that was gonna help. But she didn't. She was just hesitant. And so sometimes you just gotta go out there.
One major was changing the way when you say affirmations or afformations, looking at it in a different way. And so my brain would then think of it as, okay, these are steps to take you to the next level instead of it being a negative. And then really the writing down your daily You know, steps that you're going to do, but then you went that next level about how it made you feel or why you chose to do it or not to do it. So you gave yourself permission if you chose not to, and you're not beating yourself up all day, you know. Huge. And then, you know, finding about the loving mirrors, what really people thought about you when you had a different perspective. So that held you back because you didn't want to step on toes or, you know, you didn't want— to hurt people's feelings or, you know, so that was a huge part.
But she got really engaged in the system and a lot of her, I guess, misgivings stopped. And so she really got going. And so she was like full steam ahead, which was, you know, you just released all that power and energy. So it was really amazing.
Hello everyone, my name is Noah St. John and welcome to today's interview for The Power Habit System. And I'm very, very delighted to welcome you to today's interview because I have my dear friends and clients with me. Their names are Sheila and David Valles. So Sheila and David, welcome.
Thank you.
Hi. Thank you.
Nice to be here.
Well, great to have you here today. And I want to read you a little bit about Sheila Valles because Sheila is really the person who I worked with and David is her loving husband and supporter and loving mirror. which you'll be hearing about. But about Sheila, she has, she's been married to her husband David for 35 years. They have 2 handsome strapping sons, Daniel and Richard. She began her Mary Kay career in August 2001. Her unit achieved Pink Cadillac status 6 months after becoming a unit, and they've earned the use of 7 company cars, and she's won 30 gold medals. She was Queen of Director's Court of Sales in 2008. And number 1 in the nation, setting a new company record, which is something we'll talk about. She was also selected as Company Miss Go Give in May of 2008, which is awesome. And she has earned over $700,000 in her Mary Kay career in commissions and 36 carats in diamonds, which is pretty awesome. So she could basically open a diamond store at this point if she wanted to. So anyway, so Sheila and David, thanks again and welcome to the program today. Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
So, Sheila, I'd like to start with you and basically talk about where were you before we met. And we were just talking about, you know, where we met at a seminar that I was speaking at, and you guys were both there and you heard me speak. So, could you tell us a little bit about, you know, where you were kind of before we started working together through these power habits?
Well, we were doing really, you know, kind of average. We had earned the Cadillac. We had— I think that was the first year we were working towards Unit Club, but we were stuck. We couldn't break out of that barrier, it just seemed. And I wasn't sure if it was personal, if it was business, you know, what it was. So when we heard you, it was that stepping stone for taking us to the next level, knowing that maybe you could give us more. And actually, I wasn't the one that really wanted to do it. I was really skeptical. It was my husband that really encouraged me, and then we went on from there.
I remember that very well. And I remember that you were there, and after I spoke, you came back to the table where I was standing. And Sheila, you were really very skeptical and hesitant, and I remember David pulled out his American Express card and said, you're getting this. Do you remember that, David?
Exactly. Sometimes you just gotta go for it, you know.
That's awesome. So, so David, what, what was it that, you know, when I spoke, because I really, you know, I spoke for maybe 30 minutes or so, but what was it? Was there something that sort of clicked or sparked in you? What was it, if you can remember?
It was the affirmations. And then I was looking at Sheila and how she was taking it in. And, and it was just, you could tell that it was something that was going to help. But she didn't, she was just hesitant. And so sometimes you just gotta go out there.
Now, now, as I recall, Sheila, you have— you had, before working with me, you had spent a lot of money on a lot of different programs, right? I mean, you know, self-help or personal growth programs. Was that part of the skepticism?
Well, we did, you know, the books, and you heard different things with the training. And so I thought, well, how could you be any different?
Right?
You know, because I've done that, and I'm still kind of in the same way. And So, you know, what, what were you going to offer me that was different than what was in the— what I had done prior?
Now, and so that's a great question. So how— when we started working together, what did you find was different? I mean, what was it? Because, because it was a pretty dramatic difference, you know, once we started and you really just took to the teaching and you were, you were off like a rocket. So what would you say were some of the breakthroughs or aha moments that happened for you?
The one major was changing the way when you say affirmations or afformations, looking at it in a different way.
Uh-huh.
And so my brain would then think of it as, okay, these are steps to take you to the next level instead of it being a negative. And then really the writing down your daily, you know, steps that you're going to do, but then You went that next level about how it made you feel or why you chose to do it or not to do it. So you gave yourself permission if you chose not to and you're not beating yourself up all day, you know.
Right, exactly.
Huge. And then, you know, finding about the loving mirrors, what really people thought about you when you had a different perspective. So that held you back because you didn't want to step on toes or, you know, you didn't want to hurt people's feelings or, you know, So that was a huge part.
That's awesome. Now, David, did you see a difference in Sheila as she was going through the program? I mean, what differences did you notice or perceive?
Well, she got really engaged in the system. And a lot of her, I guess, misgivings stopped. And so she really got going. And so she was like, full steam ahead, which was You know, you just released all that power and energy. So it was really amazing.
Well, she's a great student and just, she totally took to it like I was saying. So from a numbers perspective, Sheila, what did you see? What happened as a result of really installing these new habits in your life? What was the result?
Well, the sales went up, the unit volume went up. We did our unit club. And it just seems like everything started to fall into place because I was taking the action and I wasn't doubting myself or that negative. But to really, with your program, if I hadn't have paid for it, I don't think I would have woke up every morning to do it because I wasn't a morning person. And every morning I think I had to be on like 5 AM or 6 AM. And I would get up, you know, I would be on the call.
Yes.
I told myself I was determined that I was going to, you know, listen and do whatever you had to do to see if it was really going to work because I'm a skeptical person. So I figured if I do it and it doesn't work well, then I'm going to tell you it doesn't work.
Right. Well, and then so, so David, from, you know, from a strictly— because you're the numbers guy, so what did you see in terms of the numbers? You know, in terms of the difference?
We had our The largest month ever, over $158,000 retail.
Wow.
Just done in one month. And her commission check was over $23,000. In one month?
In just one month? Wow.
Wow.
And what did you say, an ordinary what?
If you look at, like, you know, ordinarily, it's, you know, they're much lower. So it was just setting all kinds of records.
Now you did, Sheila, you did actually set some company records. Can you tell us about that?
Well, the goal was, you know, setting the goals and then going after it. And the hugest goal was being, you know, the number one in the quarter sales for the director. So each month I really had to use and focus on your activity to keep me, you know, in the right frame of mind. And we, we blew past— we, I think we Beat the company record of having the most sales for the year and went on to be the number 1 in the Director of Credit Sales. So that was awesome.
That's wonderful. That is incredible. And, and, and David, you know, not just from a numbers perspective, but also as you were talking about engagement, I mean, what, what was some of the difference in Sheila? Did, did some of the stress like go down? Because I remember Sheila shared with me at one point that she was making, you know, she was averaging about You know, $5,000 to $10,000 in retail sales per month, and then you were up to, as you just said, $150,000 in retail sales. And I remember Sheila shared with me that she was actually working less to get that much more sales. She was actually working less than she was when she was kind of stuck and spinning her wheels. Did you see that as well?
Yes, what she did is she engaged with her people more. And actually, you know, we bought your books for everybody. And so they were reading your books and Everybody just got really going.
That's awesome. Well, that's fantastic. So, so Sheila, for those people who are just starting out on this journey and, you know, just starting out with Power Habits or Afformations, what advice could you— would you give them?
To really plug them in every single day and then put them into action because, you know, just reading, if you're not putting it into action, it's not going to work. But we took the action. And you're changing your whole way of thinking and your whole way you focus. So then it helps you do that next step. And whether they're baby steps, they're still breakthroughs that kind of opens up to the next level.
Absolutely. And David, you know, as, as, as the spouse, as the, the person who's just supporting, you're such a great example of being a loving mirror. And really, even from the very, very beginning when you, When you knew that Sheila could do it, even when she was skeptical, you know, what would you say to maybe a spouse or somebody who's supporting somebody going through this process?
Well, I think a lot of times what you have to do is you have to look at today and not, you know, look at what's happened in the past. And, you know, the future's not here yet, and you can change the future by what you do today. And so that was huge for us. So we really just took it on, you know, took it by the horns and Ran with it.
You sure did. You both did. And I'm just so proud of both of you and you've done an amazing job. So, David, let me just start with you and say just any final thoughts or words of wisdom and then Sheila, I'll let you wrap it up. But David, any final thoughts for us?
I think for the husbands, they need to do what their wives ask them to do and not really think about it, just do it. And guys, we're good from working from lists and stuff. Just do it and don't question it and never give them permission to quit.
That's beautiful. Very well said. And Sheila, any final thoughts for us?
Well, the key was, you know, sometimes you don't have that support, you know, on the outside, but when you do the activity of the loving mirrors, you find the people that are your support and that want to see you succeed. And then you put those things into action, and then you draw from those people that will help you keep going to the next level. And then just being really focused, like David said, each day on those activities and that action, you know, and the way you think about it, you know, so that way you're giving yourself permission to go to the next level, permission to make the next call or to see the next person. And it's huge. And it's flown over— it's flowed over to our boys, and they are doing amazing things. My older son is a A high-power attorney, and he is phenomenal. And my younger son, he is working in the business area, and he is just doing great and really networking. So, it has helped the whole family.
That's wonderful. And I'm so thrilled to hear that and to see it and to see the effect and the ripple effect. Like you were just saying, it flows and spills over on everything that you're doing in a great way, and you're touching so many lives and helping so many other people as well. So thank you so much for, for sharing your, your experience with us, Sheila and David Vallis. Thank you for taking your time today. I really appreciate it. And congratulations again on all your success and many, many more. So for all of you watching, thanks for joining us today. This is Noah St. John for the Power Habit System and Afformations. And we'll see you next time. Thanks. Bye-bye, everybody.
Bye-bye.
