Eckhart on Emerson

Eckhart explores Emerson's idea that immense intelligence pervades the universe and humans are vessels for it. The talk emphasizes openness to this power and our connection to something vast beyond ourselves.
We lie in the lap of immense intelligence. It is within and without. We are pervaded by fills the entire space of the universe. We lie in the lap of immense intelligence, which makes us organs of its activity and receive us of its truth. If we are open to it. It's like having a house. If you close the shutters, no matter how bright the sunlight is, it can't come in. It doesn't mean the shutters are more powerful than the sunlight, just means shutters are closed. And so if a human being is closed, the vast intelligence cannot operate, or can only operate as a trickle. Everybody has a trickle of it, otherwise it wouldn't be alive. So everybody has a little trickle of that coming into their lives. But the full power of it in most people's lives is missing. So they live not knowing what vast power is available to them, or to put it more accurately, what vast power they themselves are. It's not when I say it's not available to you, that creates a separation. It is in essence who you are.
