Eckhart Tolle explains how God can be both transcendent and present inside you. He uses the sun and light as an analogy: just as the sun radiates light everywhere, consciousness emanates from the divine source and dwells within each person.

If God is transcendent, how can God also be immanent, which means indwelling within you? God is transcendent, and from that transcendent dimension, God emanates into this world the essence of all life, which is consciousness. A very good analogy is the sun, and not surprisingly, many ancient cultures regarded the sun as divine or God. So in this analogy, in the same way that the sun, which is virtually eternal, not absolutely eternal but relative to us, the sun emanates light into this world. So the light is an emanation of the sun. So the consciousness that is the essence of you emanates from God, the source, in the same way that the light emanates from the sun. Mm-hmm.
