This is a YouTube video titled "School of Awakening: How to Connect with the Aliveness of Nature (Part 1)" containing a spoken monologue or lecture from February 16, 2021. The speaker discusses the importance of wisdom and conscious living, emphasizing that essential life skills and awareness are generally not taught in traditional educational systems. The content focuses on the difference between conceptual knowledge and deeper experiential learning, particularly in creative and spiritual domains.
Sam well, it's true that the most important things that a human being needs to know to lead a life that is conscious does not create unnecessary suffering. Those things are, generally speaking, not taught at school or university. There are some exceptions. There are certain alternative schools where some of these things, I believe, are being introduced or are being taught. And there are individual teachers also who bring in these important teachings into their classroom, although they're not part of the official curriculum. But on the whole, I believe it is true that all those essential things for human being to know how to live skillfully and consciously, these things are not yet being taught on a large scale. So what's lacking is wisdom in our contemporary world. And wisdom, of course, should not be confused with intelligence or information or even education. You can be highly educated and completely lacking in wisdom, or you may have little education, but be connected to that in a realm where wisdom arises, which is the dimension of awareness or presence. So the most vital thing to learn is to be in touch with this inner dimension of presence or awareness. And that certain things you can teach that are purely conceptual. You can teach mathematics or historical information facts. Those things you can teach easily. All it is required is that the teacher has sufficient knowledge to be able to teach these facts. Then there's another type of teaching which would apply to subjects such as music or dance. Anything creative, even cooking, those things require more than conceptual knowledge. So there's something that you need to absorb that goes beyond conceptual knowledge. And so you wouldn't go to a teacher taking music lessons and the teacher does not know how to play music, might only have conceptual information about music. So that would not be a good music teacher. The teacher needs to have absorbed.
