Its Time to Get Out of Your Rut

Katie (speaker) describes repeatedly falling into mental/emotional ruts and frames them as signals that a next-level version of oneself needs to emerge. She diagnoses causes (raised expectations, ego resistance, repression of new habits/identity, over-focus on future/outside sources) and prescribes two core remedies: 1) take concrete actions the future/ideal self would take (small steps, reps), and 2) embody the desired emotional frequency now (gratitude, presence, neutrality) while accepting current circumstances. She offers a simple exercise (draw an ideal-self sketch and list mismatches) and ends with typical channel CTAs.

Welcome back to the channel. Okay, my head has been just all over the place lately and I found myself in a little bit of a rut again. And I don't know about you guys, but I get into cycles of thriving, doing okay, and then just feeling frustrated and then falling into a rot and then not being able to get out of it. Sometimes the rut can literally be a depressive pit. Like, I mean, when I say rot, rot is very. A very light term for how it feels sometimes. Sometimes it feels like hell. This time it didn't feel like hell. It just didn't feel great, didn't feel myself. And I will do anything that I can to pull myself out of the rut as quickly as possible because it's just not a nice place to be. But sometimes we have to fall into ruts because the ruts are here to teach us something. And if you have set a goal for yourself, like a really big goal that requires you to evolve a lot as a person so that you can kind of fulfill the responsibilities that come with that goal, then you might be experiencing something which I have been experiencing so much of lately, which is this constant need to keep raising my standards for myself, for like, my identity and for what I'm actually just doing in my life in terms of, like, the content that I'm making. I have so many big scale ideas and loads of other stuff in my life basically where my standards are constantly being pushed and pushed and pushed in my mind. And then I feel like I'm constantly having to face and release things and face things within myself, basically. So I'm in and out of rows every other month, to be honest. And each time I come out of the rut, I evolve to my next level self. So this is the thing. When you're in a rut, it's not for no reason. And almost always if you manage to pull yourself out of that rut, you come out of the rut a much better version of yourself, a much more aligned version of yourself. You have some perspectives that you didn't have when you went into the rut. So that's all very well and good, but still being in a rut isn't nice. And literally the only way that I've ever actually pulled myself out of a rut is by getting very honest about the things that I have to change in my life. You see, we're gonna get really deep, as we always do here, and I'm gonna just hyper analyze the whole thing so you understand what's going on so that you don't feel fucking crazy when this happens. Basically, in my experience, when I get into a rut, it's because I essentially have set some expectation for myself at some level in my brain. I've set some sort of expectation, I've raised some kind of standard. So let's say, for example, I have. Like, when I started this channel, I knew I would have to have new routines. I knew I would have to be reading more, journaling more, so that I could structure the things that I wanted to think about and talk about and just have more inspiration, right? But my life as I was living it, you know, I had my other business, I was doing other things. I was preoccupied with everything else. So the version of me who was dreaming and thinking about starting this channel, that version of me was doing certain things that this new version of me who actually had the channel wouldn't do. And what's happening when you get into the rut is basically you subconsciously know that this version of you needs to be let go and a new version of you needs to come in because there's things that you now want. Your kind of subconscious is telling you, right, it's time to kind of move out of this phase of life and to go into the next chapter. It's time for you to evolve. It's time for you to shed some layers of yourself and get to your next level, right? But where the rock comes in is when you start denying that or you don't realize that. So you're resisting the shift by staying who you've always been and by not introducing the changes that need to be introduced. And the reason you're not introducing them is because your ego is fighting to protect the self that you have been up until this point point. So your ego, your ego basically is all wrapped up in your identity and your sense of self. And your ego's always going to try and protect this self that you are right now because it has this fear that it will no longer survive if you let this self go. And so that's why it can be hard to see within yourself. It can be very hard to see the traits and the things that might be holding you back because you can't see things that your ego is wrapped up in. So that's why it's really important to know this. It's really powerful to know this. Like, the reason you're in the rut is because, let's say, like my example, I knew, not consciously, subconsciously, that I was going to have to start making time every day for reading Making time every day for journaling, for, you know, actually sitting down and recording content, right? But I kind of just kept thinking later, like, I'll get to that later. Like sooner or later I'll just be the person who does that. Sooner or later I'll. I'll just do that at some point. And I have to consciously say to myself, like, no, this is who you are now and this is what you do now, and you're going to do it from today and every day. And that's how the shit happens. So it's not about, like, I find this personally when I'm in a rut. I'm thinking so much into the future. I'm feeling so much into. I want, I want, I want, I want this. I want this change. I want this to happen. I'm not happy with this, I'm not happy with that. A lot of frustration with your current circumstances and the only way around that is to change something. Like actually get up off your ass and do something that you've never done before. That is literally the only way I've ever gotten out of a rub. Getting up off my ass and doing something new. Doing something that this new me would do. It breaks the cycle of this old style self. This, because that's where your frustration is. You're stuck in your old self and that's why you feel like you don't like yourself. Because you know that this self is not the one that's going to keep serving you into the future and towards your future vision. Also, if you're yearning for something that is a hundred steps ahead. So let's say, for example, I'm yearning for 10 million subscribers on YouTube, right? And this actually, no, this actually happened to me. So it wasn't 10 million, but I was like, if my first YouTube video doesn't go viral, then I don't want to even start. Like, it has to be the perfect first YouTube video. Like my first YouTube needs to be. I need to have like studio quality content. Everything needs to be perfect. My words need to be perfect. And even now I still get like this because there's so much I know that I don't know and there's so much that I'm still learning and I'm not ready to actually articulate here. Like, I want to feed so much more into everything that I talk about with everything that I'm learning. So sometimes I think to myself, well, I need to wait until I'm able to talk about it fully. Like, I need to wait until I get to the Truth to the core of the universe before I can make a video about it. But it's like, well, no, because then you're going to keep feeling this, this frustration. You're going to keep feeling this stuck, stagnant energy. And the thing is, the path illuminates as you walk it. So you can't be sitting here in your row, you looking a thousand steps ahead and thinking, feeling very hopeless and thinking, I don't know what to do. I don't know what to do. Because you're not like this perfect, refined version of you who's gonna get this perfect, refined outcome. You're not gonna get the outcome if you just keep thinking, like, you're gonna do one thing and get it. Like, I'm gonna post one fucking YouTube video and I'm gonna get 100 million subscribers. No, you have to focus on step one. And that's how you start to crawl out of your rock. You take the first step and you become satisfied with taking the first step. You don't have to land at level 1000 immediately. All that matters is you start moving out of this stagnant, stagnant place that you've been in. Because the thing is, when you start moving and you start progressing towards what you want, you discover things that you never would have learned if you had stayed in your little rut. You can't learn anything in the rut except frustration and despair. You can only analyze and look at things so much. You can only plan so much. Like me sitting here trying to plan the perfect video. It won't happen if I don't put the reps in. It won't happen if I don't get good at speaking and talking and engaging and finding my character and my expression. I can look, I can look at every other YouTuber on the planet. But if I'm not acting, if I'm just taking in information constantly and not acting, that's when I begin to feel stuck, stagnant, hopeless, and very, very, very overwhelmed. That's the other emotion of being in a rut, is overwhelmed. So if you just keep looking, like, looking for answers outside yourself and not doing anything for yourself, not actually physically taking any actions for yourself, it's just gonna make you feel more and more overwhelmed because it's like you're just pouring more and more information and influences from outside sources when you've got the answers, like, the answer is always you. It's not what everyone else is saying. Yes, you can take inspiration, but. But it's within you. It's like Going to the gym, like if you're in a rut and you're looking on social media at all these really fit looking people, these healthy people eating really well, and you think to yourself, oh God, yeah, I need, I need to lose weight, I need to get healthier, I need to clear my skin, I need to do better, I need to cook up, I need to try those recipes. And you're like screenshotting all these recipes and all these workouts and you're making a vision board of like a six pack and a Pilates class. And you're doing that for months. You are single handedly digging yourself into a rut over that. Because the only way to actually do it and actually get it is to get up off your ass, go buy some groceries and go sign up to a Pilates studio. That's how you do it. Stop preparing, stop looking outside. You get up out into the world and do the things that you know that that version of you would do. Which brings me to my next point. And this ties into manifestation. So I'm gonna try to not be too scatterbrained in this video, even though I feel a bit scatterbrained today. I wrote this down to try and organize my brain. So bear with me for a second. Basically, the fundamental energy of being in a rut is you have expectations of yourself that are beyond what you believe to be true about yourself right now. And you're yearning beyond what exists before you right now, but you're not acting on it. That's how you get stuck. That's how you get trapped in this rut, in this yearning energy. And the reason that you have this yearning is because you realize that you want more from yourself and your life than what you're experiencing. But you're not giving your new self the opportunity to be expressed because you're scared or because what I just explained about your ego and your sense of self trying to preserve itself. So this kind of repression of this new self that you subconsciously know is in there is why it feels so horrible to be in this situation. Because you're sitting on all your untapped potential. You're sitting on all your ideas that you haven't expressed and all these experiences that you could experience that you know you could if you just let this new self come out. You also subconsciously know that you're deceiving yourself. So that's why this kind of self criticism gets really loud and it gets really difficult to feel self loving because you know you're not being self loving. Because you're not allowing yourself to be this new version of yourself. But this is the trap and this is what I need you to not fall into. Because Lord knows I've fallen into it so many times. You have being energy and doing energy, okay? So when you're wanting to make this change, the problem is you are wanting to get away from yourself, right? And when you're so focused on changing everything about yourself, you become very depressed and negative about your current life, which actually attaches you energetically to your current life more. Because you're sending out everything in the universe is energy, as we know. So you have an electromagnetic field, you have an energy body. And when you're embodying like your emotions have energy as well, your emotions are signals to the universe and they give out a certain frequency which attracts experiences, opportunities and things of that similar frequency. And so if you are just embodying an energy of depression with yourself, with your life of just being stuck, stagnant, this is just the way it is, then you will continue to attract more of that. So no matter how much you vision board, no matter how much you look at things that you want or you think of what you want to change, wanting and wanting and wanting and yearning and placing your focus on things outside of you is never ever going to bring it in. Listen, it's toxic for you to move from a place of self hate all the time. And when you're looking at all these other people and you're looking at all these changes you want to make, it's very easy to fall into a mindset of hating your current situation. But an energy of hatred is only going to give you more things that you don't like. It's going to give you things that feed that energy. And this is going to sound a little bit counterintuitive, but the key to getting out of a raw is is actually figuring out how to embody the energy of what you desire right now. Because everything in the universe is energy. And the universe is basically just what's going on in your mind. And if in your mind you're constantly thinking, in the future I'll be happy in the future, I'll feel peace in the future, I feel satisfied, fulfilled. Then you will only ever keep attracting a feeling of only wanting to feel that in the future and never ever feeling it right now. So the way to get out of the rut is to start actually taking actions. Yes, that this new version of you would take, but also accept where you are right now and find the good in right now, because as soon as you find peace, presence, joy, that is when everything just comes to you, everything good rushes at you. And I know you're looking at me and you're thinking, well, how can I be good if I don't have enough money? How can I be good if I'm completely alone? Whatever it is that you're trying to change, whatever it is that you're not happy about, how can I be good when I have this going on in my life? You can be good when you have that going on in your life. Because, honey, we're all gonna die. Nothing actually matters. You have to fucking zoom out, zoom out, detach from everything, everything. I don't care who broke up with you. I don't care how much money you lost. I don't care. I do not care. Everybody goes through hardships. They. Everybody deals with shit. You can detach and you can still find peace right now. And the minute that you do everything good and everything that you desire will come rushing towards you. That is the only way to change your life, is to decide to be happy now. That's it. And it's such a fucking trap to try and do it any other way. Because any other way to do it is wrong and is not going to work. Believe me, I've tried it. The only time I've pulled myself out of a fucking rot, a depressive episode in my life is when I said this. Today is going to be a good day. I don't care anymore. I'm just going to be happy. Because you know what? Time is passing, life is passing me by, and it's not getting any better. No matter what I do, no matter how much I try to force it, I can't hate it into getting better. I have to just decide, fuck it, I'm going to be happy. I'm just going to be happy now. Even though I have nothing to be happy about, I'm gonna still be happy. I'm gonna still feel peace. The minute that you adopt that attitude, your whole life changes. Everything fucking changes. But until you can tap into that energy, nothing will actually change. You will forever be chasing it until you decide to be it. So embody that energy. Embody that energy of like, today is gonna be a fucking good day. Right now is a good moment. I don't need to keep thinking about the future. I can trust that good is coming. But right now is fucking amazing. I'm loving it. Today is so much fun. Today is the best day ever. Find the good in your life right now. Even if you don't have as much money as you want. Be thankful for the money that you have. Even if you're not working the job that you want, be thankful for the job that you have. Because the minute you start tuning into what you have right now, but showing up as who you desire to be right now, do you see those two things? Enjoying what you have right now and showing up as the person who has what you desire. When you marry those two together, that's when you almost put on a different perspective. And when you look at your life, you see opportunities, signs, synchronicities, intuitive hits that you've never seen before and you would not be able to see were it not for this state that you're in. So you're in a state of peace. You're in a state of just contentment with your life. You're like, okay, this is what it is. I'm going to choose to be happy anyway. And you're also in a state of embodying the person who can have what you desire. So if you want to be someone who has a business, you have the energy of someone who owns a successful business. You wake up early, you make cold calls, you set up a landing page, whatever you have to do. And then you go about your life present and content, even though your reality doesn't match that yet. Because reality is a lie. What you're seeing in front of you is so finite, and it's just a reflection of what's been in your mind recently. That's all it is. And so if you can look at it and just say, okay, well, this perceivingly negative thing is only happening because it's lining me up for this other thing. Just keep looking at the positive. Just keep finding the good and making baby steps and embodying the energy of what you desire. And very, very, very quickly, your reality will start showing up to match that energy. Here's the thing and here's the trick. You don't have to believe anything in your reality. And I know I sound very delusional. I know, I know. But that is just the way that the fucking world works. And if you don't know anything about anything, just know the universe. All that the universe is, is our minds. And so you have to change your mind first before you can change the world around you. You have to change how you're thinking about your life, how you're showing up in your life, how you're thinking about yourself. Then everything around you will change. It is the basis of everything. And you have so much Power. You think you have no power. You have so much power if only you would wake up and decide to use it. To believe what's in front of you is to believe a lie. It is a simulation. It's basically just a flower that has sprouted from the seed of your mind. And I know it's hard to believe that like certain negative things can be brought upon ourselves from our own minds, but that is how it works. That's literally how it works. And the moment you take control of your mind and your frequency, your emotions, how you're feeling every day, every moment, the moment that you do that, that's when everything outside you changes. So even though you want things to change, and you keep wanting, wanting and looking and looking and dreaming, take down your vision board and just promise yourself that you're just going to embody it. When you wake up in the morning, ask yourself, is this what my highest self? Is this what my best self? Is this what my most embodied self would do? If the answer is no, don't do it. If the answer is yes, then do it. Go about your day like that and find ways to feel peace. Give yourself permission to feel content. Even though things aren't perfect, because things are never ever going to be perfect. You're always going to have problems in life. That is, that is life. The law of polarity. There is always going to be good and bad in the world, in our lives and everything around us. It's about how we deal with that. And how we deal with it should be from a state of neutrality. You don't let that affect your peace. Regardless of what's going on, you have peace, you feel protected. You are in your own energy bubble where these things don't affect you. That's how you become so fucking magnetic to everything around you. Because if you put a desire out in the world, right, you say, I want whatever you want a new job, you put the desire out. And you know that casts out into the quantum field, but it can't come back to you because your frequency is so desperate that it repels it, right? But if your frequency is a frequency where you're peaceful, content, whole and joyous, and that's how you think you'll feel when you get this thing, then it will come back to you. So it's really just about not deceiving yourself. It's about showing up as the person who you would be when you have the thing shows up and doing it with joy. Even if your reality looks bad, you know that's going to change. All you have to do is change your mind. So that's how you do it. You decide that I am the person who has this. I am the person who does this. Are you going to feel like an imposter? If it's a big shift? Yes, you are. It might take you a while to realize, okay, this is actually who I have to become. This is actually what I have to do. Like, for me, with the reading and all that other stuff that I have to do in order to become this version of me, I was like, do I really need to do that? I don't really want to do that. I don't really have time. And the more I pushed it away, the more I repressed that version of myself, the more depressed I felt. So it might take time for you to actually realize what it is you're repressing, what it is that you actually have to change. But as soon as the thought comes into your head that I should do this, and it kind of comes in again, then start doing it. I promise you'll feel so much better. You literally start to feel yourself shifting into this version of you, and you'll feel very, very empowered. And then quickly, you'll see the shift around you in your life, and it will get you out of that rut so fast. So if you're trying to figure out, like, what is it that I'm actually repressing and has caused me to get into this rut, I don't think I'm repressing anything. Like, I think I'm. I'm fine. Why don't you just write? Like, draw on a piece of paper, A little stick man. Let me see. Can I draw this for you? Ha ha ha ha. If you're watching, if you're listening to this on Spotify, I'm sorry, but I'm basically just drawing a stick man. Okay? I want you to draw. If you don't. If you can't figure out, yes, I'm an artist. If you can't figure out, like, what it is you're repressing and you are telling yourself big old lies that you're fine as you are and whatever, I want you to draw a picture of yourself, and I want you to write down all the characteristics, like, who you are when you interact with people, what your friends are like, what your hobbies are, what time you wake up in the morning, this version of you, this ideal self, right? And then I want you to have a look at all of those that you're not doing, and all those ways that you're not showing up. Like, for me, I realized in this rut I had to be. I thought I was quite confident. I am quite confident. But when I'm around people, I tend to kind of suppress myself a little bit, suppress my personality a little bit. And I just thought, you know what, it's time for that to go. So it's time for me to be confident and expressive when I meet people. And that's something that I have to bring in. That I realized was weighing on me because I wasn't changing that. And I kind of didn't realize that that was going on. But even like another thing with me was being decisive so that I have all these ideas and things I want to do. But I'm so indecisive, I'm so nitpicky that that was weighing on me as well. Because I know that this Katie, this ideal Katie, she's decisive. That's how she's getting all this shit done. So this is how you kind of hack into the mindset of the version of you that you want to be. And this is the you that's going to pull you right out of this rut. This you has all the power in the world to make you feel incredible. You just have to actually be very honest with yourself and let yourself tap into that energy, even though it's gonna feel a bit weird at first. That's all for this video. I'm sorry if this was a bit scrambled. I'm kind of all over the place today and I'm sweating, but I hope that this helped. Please, if you don't know what to do, just go outside. Stop listening to everyone and everything around you. Tune back into yourself. Find some quiet, find some peace, find some stillness. And I promise you, the answers will come to you. You know best. You have everything you need for an amazing, beautiful life already inside you. If you haven't already, please subscribe below to the Spotify podcast and I am also taking applications for one to one mindset coaching. You can find the link in the description. Thank you so much. I'll see you in the next video.
