A short spoken excerpt from a YouTube video by Elay Amitay Halevi explaining psychological dynamics when a person begins to grow: the "old self" resists change, triggering unconscious parts and repressed emotions (shame, fear, anguish) to surface. The speaker frames these triggers as opportunities to clear out unconscious material via "parts work" and "shadow work," and advises not to resist or be surprised by such reactions.

When you decide to let go of the old version of you, the old version of you does not want to die. It's an entity that wants to survive. And so it will throw things at you. It will try to trigger you. All these unconscious parts of you will start coming up when the old self is threatened, when you're really changing your energy and you're about to fully release the old self. That's when all the deep, dark, ugly stuff that's been really repressed and pushed down will come to the surface. Okay? It's like you're about to breach and break through to the next level. And then these unconscious parts of you that don't resonate with this next level get triggered and they come up. And they essentially come up to be purged out. So when triggers come up, which happens when you're on this growth journey, it's an opportunity for you to clear out unconscious parts of yourself that have now become conscious. So the really fearful parts, the deeply repressed shame or fear or anguish, it's an opportunity to clear that stuff out through parts work and shadow work. So do not resist it when that happens, and don't be shy shocked when it happens, because I tell you pretty much every video that that might happen.
