You're Not Lazy. You're Still Addicted To An Old Identity

A motivational YouTube talk by Elay Amitay Halevi explaining why people self-sabotage when pursuing new goals: because they remain identified with their old (ego) identity and try to produce a new reality from that old mindset. The speaker presents a three-step method to stop sabotage—(1) exit the ego and access the "infinite self" via silent meditation/observer awareness, (2) drop the external goal and embody the identity of the person who already has the result, and (3) treat adverse reactions as diagnostic opportunities to identify and rewire limiting beliefs—illustrated with a coaching example and practical tuning exercises. The video closes with links to guided resources and private coaching.

How many times have you set a new goal, for example, joining the gym? And you said to yourself, this is going to be the year of my life. I'm going to get in the best shape that I've ever been in. And when you say it, you really mean it. Like you mean it. It's maybe the seventh time that you set this goal, but this time you're going to stick to it for a few days. You do. You go to the gym, you're getting up at 6am, you're hitting weights, you're eating clean. And for about five days you're, you are on it. But then day six rolls around and something happens. You sabotage yourself and you go back to sitting on the couch eating Doritos and you spiral into your old identity again and you forget about those goals that you set and were so passionate about six days before. You're not lazy, you're not unmotivated when this happens, when you sabotage yourself in a new, a new area, when you're going for a new goal. This happens simply because you are still addicted to your old identity and you've been trying to achieve a new reality from an old mind which is never going to sustain itself. If you were to enter the reality of being fit and in the best shape of my life with the identity of an athlete, you would never sabotage. If you think about the difference in the mindset of an athlete, athlete versus someone who's trying to start getting fit, it's a completely different identity. Everything in reality begins with your identity. The actions that you take, whether you're taking the right actions or the wrong actions, action is an end result. It is not the cause, as a lot of people think, falsely believe. So it goes identity. Your identity triggers your dominant beliefs, that triggers your thoughts, and that triggers your action. Oftentimes thoughts trigger emotions and then the emotions actually spur us into actions. But just to keep it simple, this is how it goes. So it's identity down. And think about this logically for a second. If you take somebody who's a pro athlete, a bodybuilder, and you take their identity, if you were to download their state of consciousness into your body, you would have a whole different belief system. You would believe that going to the gym is normal. You would believe that it's just who you are. You would believe that it's a really fun good thing to do. You would have certain beliefs around diet, around food. You probably wouldn't even consider that you're even on a diet because it would just be normal for you. If you were to look at this version of you, the version of you who's desperately trying to get in shape and is forcing themselves to take action from the old mindset, the identity of trying to get into shape, of out of shape, but showing up to the gym and hoping for the best. That identity harbors an entirely different belief system. So what you believe about fitness, what you believe about yourself, your capacity, your capabilities, what you believe about your health is going to be completely different compared to the identity and belief system of a bodybuilder. The reason that you self sabotage is because you're taking the mindset and the identity of a couch potato and you're trying to enter the reality of an athlete with that same mindset. And that's backwards and so you can have some momentum. In the beginning when you first set the goal, it's like, oh my God, you know, you're so excited, you're thinking about all the end result, everything exciting, exciting that's to come from this goal. But when you, when you lose that excitement that you first get when you set a goal and you realize you don't get an immediate result, the old mindset sneaks back in very quickly and you default to your autopilot identity, which is the one that has been programmed in you for years and years and has been running in the background ruling you. Okay, this is essentially why you sabotage. But I'm going to get into how you can actually overcome your old identity, how you can start stepping outside of that autopilot identity and actually shift your identity fully to become the version of you who this reality that you're wanting, that you keep sabotaging becomes natural, becomes easy, and sabotage will never enter your mind again. Step one, you need to start zooming out of your old ego based way of living. Just bear with me for this step because we're going to zoom things out for a second. But I need you to get your head around this because this is the prerequisite for all the shifts that are going to happen later. You need to exit your ego as step one. Okay, so you've basically got a brain, and within your brain you have different neural networks that you're firing on autopilot every single day in your conscious mind. Okay, so when you wake up in the morning every day, your brain automatically turns these networks on. And so when you think about your job, you have a certain pattern of thoughts that fire automatically when you think about your relationship, when you think about your health, when you think about your finances, every single area of your life, you have neural networks that are well embedded in your mind, associated with each area of your life. And your ego self is being sustained by all of these habitual thinking patterns. So the dominant identity that you've been living as is your kind of ego self. More than likely, if you're watching this video and your ego self has been created by your external environment. So when we came here, we essentially there was a split in our being. So we essentially descended into these physical bodies as infinite consciousness. But we gained five senses to navigate this world, okay? And with our five senses, we have been downloading information from all around us. And we've been using that information to define a self, to define a worldview, to define a belief system, and to define an identity. So the identity that you more and more than likely identify as is all ego based, because your ego was created by the world. It was created through your five senses. And so your ego is very reactive to everything in your environment because it was created by your environment. But if you want to move environment, you need to tap into the other element of the self, which is your higher aspect, your observer state, your consciousness, your infinite self. Okay? So for today, we're going to call this your infinite self. The reason this is a prerequisite is because for you to actually start stepping outside of your identity and your habitual thought patterns, you need to basically break free from the chains of the ego. The ego is very reactive, it's very impulsive, and it's keeping you running on autopilot, getting triggered by the same things again and again and again, and remaining in the same state again and again and again. So this is why, even when you've decided that you're going to get in the shape of your life and you're going to get super fit or you're going to launch that business or whatever it is, you can decide that, okay, great. But if you're still enmeshed in these same old thought patterns in the same old ego identity, you're not going to actually be able to think, think like the version of you who can have the goal that you want, because you're still enmeshed in the same mind, okay? And so for you to correspond with a new reality, you need to correspond with a new self. There is no separation between the two. In actuality, it is an illusion of our senses that we're having. In this 3D experience, you, the self and the reality are actually one, because it's all consciousness. And for you to start changing the self into, you first must exit the ego self you have to get space. So if you think of your awareness, you've been kind of standing in here and you just think life is these thought patterns that were created by your environment and that are enmeshed in the ego self because you think it's who you are. Okay? You can't. Like an eye can't see itself. You can't see that this is not actually who you are. You're the observer of this. So the first step is for you to just exit and start getting space from the ego self. Okay? This is so important because so long as you stay in here, you're going to keep firing the same thoughts. You're going to keep operating from the same identity and belief system, and you're going to keep taking the same actions and sabotaging, even though you know that's not what you want anymore. So step one is to exit the ego self and begin entering the infinite self. How do you do that? You sit down consistently in silent meditation and you allow yourself to observe your thoughts. So the infinite self is the observer. It's the one that watches. It's that quiet void that's outside of your conscious thought. It's connected to the subconscious mind, the quantum field of information. All that is. And the. The key to your transformation is tapping into that. Tapping into that infinite self that's connected to everything. So before we move on to the next few steps, you've got to commit. First of all, if you really want to shift identity, you need to become very aware of the ego self and begin separating from it. Because what will happen if you don't do that is you'll go to the gym, right? For example, if your goal was to get in the best shape of your life, you'll go to the gym for the five days. And on the sixth day, your ego self is going to use circumstances to dictate its being as it does automatically. And it's going to say, I don't see any results. I don't see any progress. What's the point in this? This is stupid. And it's going to default to the old way of thinking. Because the ego always bases its actions and its state and its beliefs of external reality. But the infinite self knows that it is the creator of reality. And so when you're detached from your ego's way of thinking and you know that you are a divine creative being and you have access to everything, you can show up to the gym, you can see that you haven't seen much progress. And you can still say that circumstance is Irrelevant. So long as I remain in the identity of being in the best shape of my life, nothing outside me matters because I am the creator being and I do not allow external circumstances to dictate who I am. Okay? And that is the difference. But you won't be able to do that when you're so identified with the ego. This is reflected by the way in all the ancient spiritual texts, like in Kabbalah, they call this ego self Satan or Satan. And it's a false identity based on the illusions of reality. But your true nature is infinite, is creative, is a fractal of God consciousness. You deny that nature. You deny your creative power to access anything that you desire in this reality. When you keep reacting in your ego, when you keep allowing external reality to tell you who you are. An external reality is literally an end result of consciousness existing in forms previous to matter, which is like thought, energy, emotion. It's an end result. So you're allowing something at its end result to dictate who you are. When you're the creative aspect, your consciousness is what's creating your reality from what already exists in the quantum. And so the more you detach from the ego, who was created by the material world and who operates in the realm of the 1%, what you can see with your physical senses, and the more you tap into this creator who has access to the infinite, to the 99%, to the unseen, that's where magic can really, really start to happen. That's where you can start to get results that don't make sense. People have like, healed limbs and had dramatic transformation in every area of their life when they have begun to operate in the unseen, in the creative element of them. So you've got to sit down and get into your inner world consistently stop allowing yourself to be ruled by the outer world, because that is ego. And you are always going to sabotage yourself if you remain stuck in your ego and stuck in your old state of mind. So most of the time people go back to autopilot because they've forgotten that they are the cause and that no external circumstance has any power over them unless they say it does. And they can overcome any circumstance if they say so. So that's step one. I see a lot of people in my community and in coaching and even on here, and they're trying to skip step one. But to be honest, all the other steps are going to be very, very, very difficult if you don't first have this space, because your ego is still going to keep ruling you. You're still going to be operating as a circumstance, you're still going to be operating as an end result instead of a cause. And you're not going to be really believing in your power to change your mind and change your reality because you don't have space from the old ego way of thinking. So it is vital that you get this down first. And all you have to do to do this is meditate consistently in silence and stop reacting on autopilot to your external reality. Okay, step two is to drop the goal entirely. Once you've figured out what you want, you can say, okay, I want that. But after that, you've got to drop it entirely and become the version of you who already has it. So most people, they sabotage, they don't make progress, like I mentioned, because they're trying to get to an outcome in the same mind, in the same energy, in the same belief system, and in the same identity as before. And as we know, in order to enter a parallel reality, you must become the parallel self that is energetically resonant with that reality. And so, yes, define what you want, but then stop wanting it and start becoming it. Because you're gonna sabotage yourself if you keep just sitting here in the same belief system, in the same mindset, thinking, I want, I want, I want. Because wanting is never the same energy as having. So you're not gonna start to get it. And then you're gonna get frustrated and you're gonna get down on yourself and you're gonna think, this doesn't work anyway. And then you're gonna sabotage yourself because why would you keep going like that when it obviously isn't working? You're right, it doesn't work, so what can you do? Instead, you go from I want to I have and I am. And you might be thinking, well, I don't have it. How can I say that I have it when I don't have it? Again, you're thinking like a lower dimensional being. When you think like that, you need to decide internally that you have something. 99% of your manifestation is done before you see it physically. The physical outcome that you see in front of you is the last 1% of the manifestation. So you've got to look after the first 99% in your unseen realm, in your energy, in your identity, in your beliefs, in your thoughts. And the 1% will look after itself. You won't need to figure that out. Okay, so you've got to again, start thinking like a higher dimensional infinite being, which is your true nature, and stop dictating your state and Your identity on what you see in front of you. You're the one leading this dance. So you let go of the physical goal completely, and you decide to be 100% satisfied with having it internally. You decide to have it internally, already say, it's done. I am the version of me who already has my dream physique. I am the version of me who is an athlete, who is healthy. You decide that that is who you are now. And you let go of looking for evidence. This is how you quantum shift. You stop waiting for permission from your external reality and you start showing up as this version of you in a way that, like, you don't even need the outcome anymore because you feel like you already have it. That's when you'll get it. So, for example, if you were going from the old mindset of, I'm trying to get healthier, I'm unfit and I'm out of shape, but I'm trying to get better, you're going to be thinking, I really want to get in shape. And you're going to be forcing actions. You're going to be forcing yourself to sometimes go to the gym, sometimes eat healthier, and it's probably not really going to stick because you haven't shifted your identity or your mindset. Instead, you look at, okay, I want that outcome. Who do I need to become for that outcome to be natural? What is their identity? What is their belief system? What do they know to be true about themselves? And off the back of that, you're gonna have thoughts coming up like, you just eat healthy because you want to. It's a natural thing for you to choose healthy options. It's a natural thing for you to want to exercise because it corresponds with who you are now. And that is the difference. So the version of you who already has it and they're just maintaining this physique or they're maintaining this lifestyle, the way that they think about fitness, about food, about everything is completely different from that old version of you. And that's the way that you need to start thinking if you want to get this result as quickly as possible. So you're going from the identity of trying to get fit to get what result to, I go to the gym because it's who I am. You see how there's no room for debate here. It's who you are, it's natural. This takes out a lot of the struggle, a lot of the strife, a lot of the difficulty that we enter into when we're trying to go into a new reality as an old Self, and it also removes the sabotage component. Because you've decided that you're this self, you've decided to stop looking for the outcome. So because you're not basing your embodiment on the outcome, you're basing it on you deciding that this is who you are. You're not going to be swayed by any result, good or bad, anymore in the external, because this is just who you are. Now, regardless, when you can get in this energy, there will be no self sabotage. It's not going to enter your mind because this is just a natural byproduct now of the character that you're embodying in this reality. How you can tune into this, just to give you a little practice, you want to meditate on the version of you who's already in this reality, okay? So you can close your eyes and tune into the version of you who already has the outcome that you want, whether it be the fitness example, your financial goal, your business goal, whatever it is, your relationship goal. You want to tune into that reality using your imagination, because your imagination is connected to the quantum field of everything that already exists. Tune into the parallel reality where this outcome is already achieved, and then you want to drop into. Imagine in your mind that you're dropping into the body of the version of you who's already living this reality. And you want to get a feel for what are their emotions? What's their dominant emotional state? What are they focusing on? What's their perspective? What are their thoughts? What are their beliefs? And how do they view themselves? Okay, that is so messy. I do apologize. But you want to tune into the body of this person and get a real feel for how they feel they feel. What are their emotions? What's their emotional state? Are they more confident? Are they more calm? What are they focused on? What's their perspective on various things, depending on what you're tuning into. What are their thoughts that they habitually think? What are the beliefs that are driving those thoughts? And what is their concept of themselves? If they were to describe themselves and had to identify who they were, how would they describe themselves? Really take the time to sit down and do this? Because this is your map, this is your blueprint, this is your tuning fork. This is how you enter this reality. You step in the body, you tune to that frequency of the version of you who's there already, and you let go of the outcome. It is that easy. Okay? It is that easy. So once you've done this, you allow yourself to rest in the fact that you've tuned into this identity, and you let that be enough. You let yourself let go of the outcome and enjoy your life as this new version of you. Because if you go into the energy of wanting and waiting, that is not the energy of having, and you're only going to push this thing away from you. One thing that helps to remember with this, I know we all want change and we all want to be better, but you've got to also remember, like, this desperate, like, need that you have to place your. Your happiness and fulfillment on. Achieving a goal is oftentimes why you end up sabotaging. Because you're putting so much expectation and pressure on the outcome. When we're going to spend 99% of our time in this reality, in this experience, working towards an outcome, not at an outcome, on the journey to an outcome, okay? And so for you to place your fulfillment and your happiness on that fleeting moment where you get the result you want, you're depriving yourself of so much joy and fulfillment that could be found on the path, in the becoming, on the way. So I implore you to actually enjoy the path. Like, put all your focus, once you know where you're heading, put all your focus on the path, on the journey, on being in that unknown. Because that's kind of why your soul came here. Like, you forgot, got your infinite nature and that you've got access to everything so that you could experience the surprise and the duality and the. And the challenges and the obstacles and the unknown of being in this physical reality. So try to enjoy the process, because if you can do that, you'll be much, much less likely to sabotage it. And again, enjoying the process, that's a decision. You get to decide that happiness is only here and now. You get to decide to seize the present moment. Okay? Step three is to embrace adverse reactions. The reason most people sabotage and they start sabotaging is, let's say they're on day five of the gym and they start having a lot of doubt whether this is going to work, whether it's even worth it, because they're not seeing the results that they want. And instantly, instead of identifying where that thought is coming from and using it as an opportunity to overcome it and rewire it, they allow themselves to be swept up in the thought. They go into a negative thought spiral or a disempowering thought spiral, they get swept back into the old identity. They feel the emotions of the old self, and they then revert to the old patterns and old habits of the self. Because as we've Spoken about it goes thoughts and then emotions and then actions. When an adverse reaction arises, you want to. Instead, if you want to avoid sabotaging yourself, you must start viewing adverse reactions as opportunities for you to rewire any beliefs remaining that do not align with your new identity. That's all they are. Okay, so when you've chosen, chosen to enter a new identity, adverse reactions triggers emotional responses that you don't prefer. They arise to show you the beliefs that you have that don't correspond with this new reality and this new identity that you've chosen. That's why they have come up. They're there to show you something that's not aligned. And instead of using it as the opportunity that it is to gain awareness and to release this part of us that doesn't resonate with this new identity, we instead spiral and allow ourselves to revert to the old self. How do you actually embrace an adverse reaction? I'm going to use an example to explain this to you. I have a client who wanted to begin attracting higher ticket deals. So she wanted wealthier clients in her coaching business. She stated that this is what she wanted. She stated that this was the, the energy she was going to start embodying, this is the identity she was going to start embodying to correspond with this reality where she had high ticket clients. Okay? After that point, her external reality did not change. In fact, things got a little bit worse. And so she had an adverse reaction of a lot of doubts and she had frustration coming up at her circumstances. She was also sabotaging by procrastinating on changing anything in her business to actually align with this new intention. Okay, so she was kind of just stuck still in the old reality. And instead of viewing that adverse reaction as evidence that she was never going to succeed in this, we instead said, okay, first of all, let's accept that this is happening. Do not resist it. So she very honestly told me that she was feeling this resistance, she was feeling this doubt, she was procrastinating a lot. And because she owned up to it and started embracing it and started speaking about it, then we were able to dive deeper and look at what's behind it. So it started with a circumstance, but she, she is aware enough to know that the circumstance is irrelevant and it's an opportunity to examine her energy and to identify the misalignment that's happening internally. Because the external is merely a reflection and it's really irrelevant and it's not going to change anything by looking at the external. So we looked, we took, we Went from circumstance. And we looked at, okay, her behavior and the patterns she was embodying, which was procrastinating and sabotaging. Then we looked at her feelings, which was doubt and frustration. Then we looked at what thoughts are driving these feelings. So we examined how are you thinking about this? And she said, okay, I'm feeling really like a lot of doubt. I'm feeling a lot of frustration. I'm actually feeling a lot of fear. Fear. So you'd be surprised what you're feeling once you accept and allow it and actually start examining it. The thoughts that were driving this was, I won't be able to do it. It's not going to work for me. I'm not the right person to do this. Okay. So a lot of doubt based thoughts were coming up that were driving these feelings which were driving the behavior which was creating the circumstance. And then we took it back again and we said, okay, what belief, what beliefs are driving these thoughts? And she discovered that she had a belief that wealthy people would take advantage of her. She had a belief that wealthy people were better than her, that she was not valuable by comparison, that she wouldn't be taken seriously. And so because we didn't just spiral into the circumstance, because we didn't resist that this was happening, because she accepted and allowed it. And we went through the process of going circumstance, behavior, feeling, thought, and then belief. She figured out all of these underlying beliefs that were not supporting her new reality. So we identified the old beliefs, which is, they're going to reject me. I don't belong in their world, they're better than me, they're not going to value me. And when we identified them, by the way, she realized that straight away that really she didn't believe in these things anymore. But the thing about beliefs is they're underlying and they're sneaky, which is why adverse reactions are such a gift. Because they show us they're a mirror. They show us the stuff that we're unconscious of. And oftentimes as soon as we become conscious of an unconscious belief, we're suddenly like, wait a minute, I don't actually believe that. Because we've gotten to look at it objectively from, from our new perspective. Okay. But it just stays there in the background until we look at it ruling our behavior, ruling our emotions and ruling our state. So we took out the old belief immediately. She started questioning it and going, I don't think I even believe that anymore. But we really clarified the version of you who already has 10, 20, 30 high ticket wealthy clients. What do they believe? And so we wrote the down the whole new belief system that she was now going to wire in, which was my clients truly value me for the work I provide. They value the transformation that I provide. My value is not dictated by who's in front of me. It never changes based upon that. So we brought in a whole new narrative that was supportive of her new identity. And so that adverse reaction was a gift in that it allowed her to identify these old beliefs and rewrite them. And when she rewrote them, her thoughts changed, her feelings changed, and her behavior automatically changed. And then guess what, her circumstances changed. Okay, so this is how you stop self sabotage. You stop allowing adverse reactions to be your enemy. They're actually an opportunity here for you to identify anything that is not congruent with the new identity and the new reality that you have just chosen to align with. Okay, so to summarize, because I'm absolutely sweating in the studio's 30 degrees today, you have to exit the ego that's been defined by your circumstances. And you need to enter into the infinite self. You need to drop into that observer state consistently so you can see that you are not just your thoughts. You are not these habitual thinking programs that have been installed into you by your environment. You are unlimited, you are infinite. And you have the power to change your reality, but only when you step outside. The ego has been created by reality. If you can't be created by reality and also create reality, it's black and white. You're in one or you're in the other. So you need to get outside of the ego self who's created by reality, and start stepping into that infinite self who's creating reality, who's connected to everything, the infinite field of information. You do that consistently by sitting down in silence every single day and allowing yourself to simply observe your thoughts and observe yourself. This gets you out of ego so fast and into infinite self. And you very quickly start to realize what is available to you and what's actually possible for you when you do this, which is so key. So the second thing, to stop sabotaging yourself and to stop falling into the clutches of the old identity, you've got to drop the goal. You have to stop wanting the goal, and you have to start just embodying the version of you who's there already. You do this by identifying fully, tuning into that reality in meditation and identifying full fully who is this self? How do they think? How do they feel? What's their self concept? What's their perspective? What are they focused on. And you allow yourself to tune into that frequency and into that energy and into that identity, decide that that's who you are now, cut off every other option and then come out of that and let go of looking for the goal, Let that embodiment be enough. And then the third, third thing is to embrace adverse reactions. So adverse reactions will arise when you've decided on a new identity and you've fully shown up in that identity just to show you anything that's still underlying within you that does not correspond to what you've just chosen to align with. So adverse reactions, limiting beliefs that come up, you know, emotional triggers, anything like that that comes up is the there to help you. It's an opportunity for you to rewire any belief or any part of you that does not correspond with this new self and this new reality. So don't resist it, go into it. Notice, okay, you see the circumstance, you never point your finger at the circumstance. Instead you point your finger back at yourself and you ask, okay, how have I been acting? What have been my patterns? What have been the emotions that have driven those patterns? What are the thoughts that were driving those emotions? And then what are the beliefs that were driving those thoughts? You go in, you identify the beliefs, and then you rewire to the belief of the version of you who's there already. Congratulations. You've just got all the steps you could ever need to never sabotage your progress again. When you shift your identity first and you do it this way and you act as the infinite creator that you are, change gets to be easy, it gets to be fun, it gets to be natural. There's no more forcing outcomes, there's no more going backwards. You change the identity first and everything else flows off the back of that. You don't need to figure out how. You don't need to keep making things make sense. You don't need to keep wanting and waiting. You can actually just embody the self and enjoy that now. That is when the magic happens.
