A coach shared Dr. Emmett Miller's guided imagery meditation "Rainbow Butterfly" with Olympic athletes before Calgary, including figure skaters Brian Orser and Elizabeth Manley. They reported vivid mental images as valuable as physical practice. Miller calls this "thoughtware": upgrading your mental software for performance.

When I first came across Dr. Miller's work, I was most impressed by his guided imagery meditation called Rainbow Butterfly. I shared it with the Olympic synchronized swimmers I was working with, and they benefited from it and loved it because they love the music, and of course his voice is so mesmerizing. That led me to use it with the figure skaters before the Calgary Olympics, with the Brian Orser and Elizabeth Manley, McCollin Wilson, all medalists. From those Olympic Games, and they loved it as well. And what was really interesting is they would get into it and they would talk about afterwards the images that came to them as they went through that, and that was as valuable as the experience itself. I've been a big fan of his material and his work for a long time. I particularly love some of his expressions, like the expression thoughtware. I always thought that was a great thing to talk about.
