3 Productivity Tips That Changed Our Lives

Eric Siu and Neil Patel share three productivity habits: Eric's sleep optimization routine using mouth tape, CBD, and an Eight Sleep mattress to gain 30 minutes of REM sleep nightly; Neil's nightly Inbox Zero practice to clear emails before bed; and Eric's visible goal reminders plus a turtle figurine to slow down and say no.

Today, we are going to talk about 3 productivity tips that changed our lives. So we're going to try to make this one go a little— I'm going to share some stories around this so we can go a little longer here.
All right.
So number one from my side is around sleep. And, you know, Neil, I'm going to have to get you what I use for sleep one of these days, but basically—
huh? I just fall asleep. I sleep like a baby.
Oh yeah, that's true. But for me, I don't, not as much. There's been this craze in the last couple of years. Oh my God, sleep is the new hack. Oh my God, amazing. And so, What I do is I wear tape when I go to sleep. So I'm going to give you my sleep productivity thing. This is how I wind down. I wear tape on my mouth. And then so it forces my mouth, my nose to breathe. That increases my REM sleep by about 30 minutes. REM is my high-quality level of sleep. We'll just make it easy. So that's one thing. The other thing I do is I take a CBD pill when I go to bed. I take it from this company called Thorne. And then another thing I do is I wear this sleep mask called Slip. It's like a silk sleep mask. I can get it from Amazon. Okay. The other thing I do is I wear an Oura Ring to track my sleep, but I also have something called Eight Sleep, which is a cover on top of my bed. It cools my bed and also measures my sleep as well. And yeah, those are the— that I'll take. Also sleeping at 68 degrees. I used to have to wake up 3 to 4 times a night to use the restroom, Neil. That's really bad. And now I don't have to get up at all. When I get up, it's like when I'm actually waking up to start the day. So that's been huge in terms of my productivity. Wow.
Drink enough water, you'll have to use the bathroom.
The thing is, I don't drink enough. I don't drink a lot of water.
But if you drank more, you would have to wake up.
Probably. Yeah.
No, that's pretty gnarly on your sleep schedule. So I'll give one hack and then Eric can give the next one. Mine's really simple. Whether we love email or hate it, we all get tons of emails. And I just make sure I go through my email inbox every single night, clear out everything that needs to be cleared out before I go to sleep. That one little thing has made me a much faster executor in life. I just get my shit done. Don't go to sleep. I don't care if it's a vacation or you're sick till your emails are done.
Yep. On my end, I would say, I think over the years, it's being able to focus on goals. So when I'm brushing my teeth, I have my personal goals. I have my business goals. I have my travel goals and I have all that out there. So I'm constantly being, I'm having that reinforced. And in front of my computer right now, I have the same, I have the same note. I just basically wrote the note twice. And so I'm constantly reminded that these are the things I should focus on for the year. And that's going to stop me from taking on new opportunities all the time, because the, what tends to happen is the more, the more you go on with your career, the more opportunities will come along. And I think the quote I heard was the opportunity of a lifetime comes every year. And so it's actually very important as you get more experience to say no to things. And so having those goals in front of me forces me to say no, forces me to stay focused. And the other thing too is I have this little turtle right here. This turtle, right, tells me to slow down. And when you slow down, it forces you not to take on additional things, try to talk a little slower. I've been trying to talk a little slower, but all those things go a long way. So I think Neil and I, we're just getting a little older, a little wiser. And these are just the 3 productivity tips that have changed our lives. You want to add anything, Neil?
