AI Content Generation with Google Bard?

Eric Siu tests Google Bard's latest features against ChatGPT for marketing work. Bard can summarize 330-page financial filings, pull revenue tables from PDFs, and generate keyword research tables using real-time Google data. It exports directly to Docs and Gmail, works globally for free, and often saves significant time on content and lead generation.

Here's how Google Bard might just completely crush ChatGPT's growth rate. So as of this week, Google I/O, which is Google's event, they announced a big update to Google Bard, which is their version of ChatGPT. And the implications are huge here. I just started playing with it a couple days ago and I wanted to show you a couple things that you can do with it. So let's go ahead and dive in. So first things first, as I look at different PDFs, so Google actually launched a PDF talking about how search works and search generative experiences, which is basically their version of saying, hey, this is how we're integrating AI into how the overall search experience, because the previous search experience, not as much. Now you're going to see a lot more of it. And so let's say I don't want to read the document, it's 19 pages. So I just said, hey, can you summarize this? And the reason I can ask it to summarize a URL is because more or less, Bard is able to pull from the web in semi-real time, or at least semi-recently without needing any additional plugins and things like that. And I would say it's also a lot snappier than a ChatGPT. And the competition is heating up quite a bit now. And I think it's gonna be interesting to see how this pans out in the next 6 to 12 months or so. So you can see that this document was summarized and it talks about a couple key takeaways from the document. Google search quality raters responsible, search quality evaluator guidelines. Okay, so I would say this summary was okay, but I probably could have asked for a follow-up to gimme some more details here. And I would say I actually read the whole 19-page document, there's some key information that's missing here. So I would say this was an okay result, but it didn't help me save as much time as I needed because I didn't get the key points that I needed here, right? So that's the first piece of it. Now the second piece is I took a document from Tiny. So Tiny is ran by a guy named Andrew Wilkinson and they went public recently. And so I wanted to see how much revenue they were driving. So I wanted a financial summary of this document that's 330 pages. And so you can see the breakdown on the revenue, gross profit, operating profit, net profit, and some additional details from the document, Revenue by segment. Okay, so this is a lot better, and now I'm actually saving a lot more time. And so I actually went a little further to ask about officer compensation and things like that. All this to say is, if I wanted to invest in a company, I don't need to now read a 330-page document. I can actually now ask a product like Bard to do the research for me at a high level because it can answer the key questions. What are their core products? What is the churn rate? How has this looked last trailing 12 months or so? I can get all that information and quickly. And I can ask for any potential red flags with this company and any potential risks, and it'll all be mapped out here. And so I asked about what officer compensation looks like. It gives me this, but I said, I ain't gonna read that. I said, give this to me in a table of all the officers. And so I don't know how true this is because these are very generic names: John Smith, Jane Doe, Bill Jones, Susan Green. So I don't know how true these are, but I do know from reading the document that the salaries are within range. I just don't know if these people are it. And I do remember seeing some of the CEOs. It wasn't any of one of these names over here. So I would say this result was okay. And then I have a podcast called Marketing School. And so I just sent a URL of one of our show notes pages. And the topic was how inbound marketing is rapidly changing. And there wasn't a lot of text on that page, maybe 300 words or so. So then I said, hey, give me a Twitter thread with a catchy first sentence hook. So here it comes. So inbound marketing is no longer just about creating great content, hoping people find it. So a personalized experience that moves people. Okay, interesting. Semi-interesting. Okay, here's the hook. And then it actually writes it out like a tweet storm as well. So this is interesting 'cause this at least gives me 50 to 60% of something to build on. I won't say it's amazing, but now I can work off of this because instead of having writer's block in the morning where I feel like I need to create new stuff, I already have a topic that I can build on. And so now I say, okay, now make this into a LinkedIn post with a powerful first sentence hook that draws engagement. Are you still using the same inbound marketing strategies that you were 5 years ago? If so, you're missing out. I would probably update that one a little bit and say inbound marketing as we know it is dead. I would say something like that that's a little more extreme. And then I would start to go into this stuff over here. And I would say most of the points here are generic, but I can at least build off of the key bullet points for each one and share examples. And that's gonna allow me to take things a lot further. So maybe this post over here gets me 25 to 30% of the way there, but that's still a time saver at the end of the day. And so you have to figure out what your time is worth to you and It's invaluable, right? Because the time that you have is something that you'll never get back. And so I just wanted to share a couple more things here from a couple of threads. So this is from The Boring Marketer over here. And so Bard does keyword research with real-time data. So you can see the search volume, you can see FAQs, you could ask for high purchase intent, low competition, high search volume. That's interesting, right? So it pulls from Google Search Console, Google Trends, Google Ads Keyword Planner, real-time search results. Okay, interesting. So these are high-intent keywords, high purchase intent, but low competition. And then imagine I can do that for agency-related keywords for my ad agency, Secret Which by the way, if you need help with marketing, go to singlegrain.com to check it out. We're doing a lot of stuff with AI right now. We're trying to drive also AI transformation for clients too. And so ChatGPT, the models are based on training data from September 2021, and there is a plugin now where they can browse the internet, but you have to add a plugin. So that's that. And then Bard can repurpose any link with a 2-line prompt. So I turn a HubSpot blog post into multiple LinkedIn posts, tweet threads, YouTube Shorts, and email newsletters. As an AI model, I currently do not have. So ChatGPT can't do it, but Bard can do it. Bard can replace Grammarly, so you can update your grammar, and I'm sure you can have a plugin for that in the future. And multiple variations, quick export to Google Docs, Gmail, one-click Google search, quick results, voice type. Okay, and you can analyze code as well, and it's for free. And so I think that's interesting. I also wanted to pull over this thread as well. And so free to use, accessible in 180 countries, it can pull from recent news too, voice input we kind of talked about, you can export, we talked about that as well, summaries of web pages. But you can do a lot more than that. You can ask for alternate versions, multiple drafts of the same response. So basically you can generate 3 versions of the same And then you can ask it to explain code. We kind of talked about that as well. So what I want to do now is I want to move over here and let's say I am a digital marketing agency and I would like to rank for more high-intent purchase keywords that are low competition. I am based in the US and serve SaaS, e-commerce, and blockchain companies. Can you provide a table for me with search volume? Let's see what happens here. So as I was saying, by the way, it's pretty snappy. The results came up pretty quick. So sure, here's a high-intensity, high-purchase keywords for low competition for digital marketing agency in the US that serve. Okay, great. How to increase website traffic, how to increase. Okay, so these are more top of the funnel. Those are more TOFU keywords. How about MOFU and BOFU? Let's see if it actually picks that up. Give me a table with search volumes and competition as well. So you can see me doing this in real time. And now I don't need to wait to do keyword research. It could be done for me here. And imagine if I can layer this in with an Ahrefs or a Semrush API or any other tools that you're using or similar web API. And I'm now able to move a lot faster. I can create content a lot faster. I can move a lot faster. Now it's just a matter of the people on your team. Are they AI native and are they on board with this AI wave? Because If they're AI native, that means they're going to be able to get things done a lot faster. And you can see who on your team is going to resist this versus the ones that are going to embrace this. And one of the core values at our company is looking for people that are improvement obsessed. That's one of our core values. And so if you're improvement obsessed and you're open-minded, the way you look at AI is an opportunity. You don't look at it as a threat. You look at it as a way to enhance what you're doing, not as a way to destroy what you are doing. So if you look at this one over here, best digital marketing agency for SaaS companies. Okay, great. This is great. Digital marketing agency that I can trust. Okay. Hire digital marketing agencies. The competition is very high. So I might say redo this table, but only have low competition keywords instead. And so you can keep iterating and keep iterating. You can ask better questions, ask better questions. The more you learn to ask better questions, the less you're going to have to ask the product to refine. And so here, this is really good. As a digital marketing agency, Let's say a lifetime value of a customer is— I'll just make numbers up right now. Let's say it's $100,000 or so. You don't need that many customers visiting your pages. And so here, if a search volume is 100, digital marketing agency for SaaS companies, 100, competition's low. Okay, great. For e-commerce companies, great. For blockchain companies, 25, low. Okay, I know that's going to come up. For SEO, low. We should go for these. And if now let's say I wanted 100 of these topics, now give me 100 of these, right? Let's see what happens. And then we can either create the content on our own or we can use AI-assisted products to help us create this content at scale. And that's how you're going to be able to drive a lot more leads at the end of the day. So this is great. Make this into a table with competition and search volumes as columns. And that's all it is. Like, I'm not paying anything right now for to use this product. I'm just asking a lot of questions. It's also important for you to just live within this stuff. And so that is it for today. This is the table that I have over here. I can export it later if I want. And that's how we're going to build our traffic. That's how we're gonna build our leads. And I hope you can do the same thing for your business as well. That is it for this video.
