Eric Siu explains why leaders should ask their teams what overnight processes they're running. Most companies tolerate outdated practices because no one asks. The fix: observe how work actually happens, train people willing to learn, and move on those who won't adapt.

It's really important for you to ask your team like, hey, what are you looping right now? What are you graphing as well? And then talking to your team and then looking at how they work. Hey, show me how you're working right now. Show me what you're running overnight as well. That's also a really good question to ask because if you don't ask these questions, that you tolerate the old way of working, that basically is tolerating mediocrity and you don't want mediocrity in your company. I'd encourage you all to think about how you can go about working in a new way. I would encourage you to talk to your teams and figure out who's working the old way. People are probably going to be scared as well, but it's better that you confront the thing right now and help people learn this stuff. And if they want to learn, great. You're to help lift them up. And if they don't want to learn, then you have a problem and maybe they can do their best work elsewhere. I'm not saying that, hey, you should be happy about having to let go of people, but ultimately what matters is that you have certain standards for your company.
