Eric Siu describes hosting a live event after hitting a business milestone, with attendees flying in from Hawaii and Minnesota. The in-person gathering created strong bonds and a recurring, almost cult-like following that turned his business into a real community.
One time we said, hey, if we reach a million, we're gonna throw an event. When we threw the event, there's people that flew in from Hawaii, Minnesota, the relationships they were building with each other, the stories, the experiences, they hung out with each other afterwards as well. When we did a live event like that, what we didn't know that we were doing was we were creating almost like a cult-like following. A lot of people started to ask us, when's the next one? When's the next one? If they belong to something they feel like they identify with, they're going to want to keep coming back over and over.
