Eric Siu looks at YouTuber Sam Sulek's declining views, from 400K per video down to 150–200K despite 3.4M subscribers, to show why creators must constantly innovate. Algorithms reward growth, not stagnation, and online fame has a short shelf life.
Remember the guy Sam Sulek? The super buff dude? Yeah, on YouTube, he has tons of views. He's got 3.4 million subscribers, but what I want to call out here is that his views are declining. He's still doing all these workouts, right? He's averaging like still 150 to 200K views per video, which is still a lot. But if you go back like 3 months ago or so, he was averaging about 400K views per video. And the point is, it's hard to stay famous. We talked about the half-life of fame declining very quickly. It's just because the algorithms are going to favor whoever else is up and coming. And then if you're not constantly innovating, you're going to fade.
