Eric Siu talks about why agencies get less respect than SaaS, e-commerce, and crypto businesses. He recalls introducing himself as an agency owner at conferences and getting blank stares, then saying he did software and getting immediate interest. His view has shifted as he's gotten older and built software products alongside his agency.

Do you think agencies are a low-status business in the business world? Right. So for example, you have agency, you have like e-commerce, you have SaaS, right? Like you have crypto. Where do you think agencies fall in that stack? Probably close to the bottom. I think it's at the bottom. You know, I told you I've tested this before. I've gone to conferences where I'll lead with agency and then sometimes I'll lead with software. Whenever I say agency, the wind gets sucked out of their sails and they look to have another conversation somewhere else. This is a long time ago. And then whenever I say, oh yeah, you know, we do software, I'll test it, right? Like, oh yeah, tell me what you do. Right. And so it is low status, but I don't care now that I'm older. And also at the same time, I know it's not just agency. I know it's like you have software, I have software too. I used to care a lot more when I was younger.
