Long-form content still works for SEO, but only if it matches what people are searching for. A "how to tie a tie" query needs a quick visual answer, not a 5,000-word article. Wikipedia dominates search results because it updates constantly, not because of length alone.

Neil, do you think long-form content still matters for SEO? I do, but I'm going to give 2 disclaimers with it. One is it depends on the keyword. Like if your keyword was how to tie a tie, long-form content doesn't matter because for those kind of queries, people don't want long-form. The user intent would show that people just want a video or animated GIFs that just quickly show you how to tie a tie. But for a lot of queries, long-form still matters from the data we're seeing. The second caveat is creating content, whether short-form or long-form, that's not continually updated doesn't do as well. But if you look at Wikipedia, it's a great example of long-form long-form content that crushes it, and they continually get the pages updated.
