Eric Siu says most podcasts, agencies, and software businesses take about three years before they start compounding and become successful. He shares examples from his own podcast, an ad agency he rescued, and a software business.

So it typically takes about 3 years to build an audience or to get a business going. When I think about my podcast, first year only getting 270 downloads a month, second year I was only getting 900 downloads a month, and then now looking at everything, 1.5 million downloads a month with over 50 million downloads. And so it's just saying it takes time to compound. Same thing with any type of traffic sources, whether it's Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, whatever. It just takes time. With the business that I took over, the ad agency, first year struggled, dropped all the way down to 1 employee after I took over the company. And second year struggled, and then the third year we really started to figure things out and things started to compound from there. Same thing with my software business, about 3 to 4 years to get going. So, I mean, it seems to be the magic number, 3 years. And I've mentioned this on my Marketing School Podcast with my co-host, and, you know, he's got successful businesses too. And same with audiences, 3 years is the magical number. So, just stay patient.
