Eric Siu presents a military leadership framework called command through negation: team members commit to a concrete action by a deadline unless they get explicit contrary direction. The action must be safe, reversible, and visible. It converts blockers into default paths and resolves operational problems without micromanagement.

One of my friends, Special Forces, now has a business. He said once he did this, it changed his business completely. Okay, so he's just saying like 90% of the problems went away overnight. And it's this whole military framework around command through negation. But this command through negation concept is basically instead of your officers or your commanders needing to ask for permission every single time, it's more so, hey, I'm going to do this. by this time unless otherwise directed. But you wanna turn every blocker into a default path, okay? So I will do X related to Y by Z time unless otherwise instructed. So X is the concrete action, Y is a project, decision, client asset, or risk area. Z is the exact deadline or checkpoint. The phrase works only when the action is safe, reversible, visible, and easy to stop, okay? So all that to say is you are, instead of saying, doing this permission laundering thing all the time, you're trying to drive autonomy with guardrails, okay?
