In this video, I'm gonna show you how you can choose a marketing specialization and which one has the best salary. So, my name's Eric Siu. I am the co-host of the Daily Marketing School podcast and the host of the weekly entrepreneurial podcast, Growth Everywhere. In terms of picking a marketing specialization, I recommend taking a couple assessments. Take the DiSC assessment. You can just search Tony Robbins DiSC assessment. That will take you 15 minutes. Finish that. It's gonna show you what your traits are, what you're good at, what you're not good at. And then from there you have something to work off of. The second thing is to take the Gallup StrengthsFinder test. Okay? That's going to take you about 30, 45 minutes or so. You pay $20, but you can see what you're strong at. So for me, the very first trait, it says I'm a futurist. And then also one of the traits says, you know, I like to take command, right? The third thing is it says I'm very impatient. I like to just get things done. So you got to think about what works for you. The final thing I recommend is taking the Myers-Briggs assessment. I'm an INTJ, which means I'm an introvert, Um, but it also says, I believe it's, uh, my trait is like an architect or something like that. So I like to build things with marketing. My story is I started with SEO originally. SEO because I like, I like tinkering with things. I like tools. I like creating content. I feel like for me it's just, there's a whole bunch of different games I can play within SEO. I can build different websites, affiliate, whatever it is exactly. And SEO was a great foundation for me. Eventually I started to expand into areas such as paid advertising. I got better at copywriting. I got better at email marketing as well. But you start with a foundation first that you think makes the most sense for you, and then you can start to broaden your horizon, which I think every marketer should do nowadays. Otherwise, you're kind of gonna be behind the other people. And then once you choose that specialization, you can get a job first. So I got my job as an SEO strategist. What I saw was like long-term SEO strategists, they don't actually make like a lot of money. So I had to kind of, you know, figure out how I can kind of move my way up the ladder. So broaden myself, you know, started learning about management as well. And that's how I increased my worth. That's how you can choose a specialization to begin with. I think you gotta figure out what your personality traits are and then what makes the most sense. Then afterwards you can kinda just Google how to be a PPC manager, how to be a copywriter, whatever. We had someone on the team before, he really liked writing and he became a really good copywriter. That's what's really important. You gotta figure out what works for you and then go from there. Now in terms of which one has the best salary, there's a ton of tools out there nowadays where you can just look at the salary. So go to glassdoor.com, go to salary.com, Look at the types of companies that you want to work at. Do you want to work at an agency? Do you want to work at a, at a tech company? It just depends on what you want. Ultimately, I can't generalize for you. I'm just giving you the tools that will help point you in the right direction. And usually for the most part, the responsibilities, they're all noted there. Like if you, let's say you're starting out as an SEO analyst, yes, you're going to get paid less and don't, don't feel like you're entitled just because, you know, you're starting out just because you've put in so much work there. You still have to figure out, you still have to level up. Um, in the beginning. You still have to pick up that experience, be humble, right? Be patient, and eventually you'll get there. So start somewhere, foundation first, right? We talk about T-shaped marketer. Start with the foundation, start to broaden out, start to get better, and eventually you'll get that quote-unquote best salary. And at the end of the day, I think if your goal is best salary, you know, great. But if you want to transcend that later, it's no longer about the salary, it's about the value that you're adding for the company, the value that you're adding for the world, and And that— then the salary will kind of just take care of itself.
