The way you learn to tell stories is you tell stories. I learned to tell stories in the Northwoods of Canada, 3 hours north of Toronto, helping kids get into a 16-foot-long canoe and paddle it by themselves, creating the conditions, an aura of magic around something that could have been fairly pedestrian. Stories that were silly or scary, and when a story worked, I did it again. And when a story didn't work, I never did it again. Got it. We think people are interesting when they appear to be interested, and so that's where we begin. None of my early storytelling would have worked if I wasn't interested in the people I was telling the story to. That's a big one. Never thought about that.
