Welcome to another episode of Marketing School. I'm Eric Siu.
And I'm Neil Patel.
And today we're going to talk about how to get more search traffic in 30 days without paying for it. What could it possibly be?
Everyone to some extent has search traffic unless you're a brand new website. But if you already have search traffic, everyone's like, oh, SEO takes forever. And it does. It's not a 3-month thing. It's not a 6-month thing. It's a 1+ year thing. But today, we're going to share with you how you can get traffic in 30 days and more of it really fast. So you're all using Google Search Console. We've talked about this hundreds of times, but we don't really mention this strategy too often. Go to Google Search Console, look at the pages that are getting most of the search traffic. When you click on those pages, it'll also show you the main keywords that are driving those visitors. Then use Google Suggest. You can use tools like KeywordTool.io, KW Finder, Ubersuggest, whatever you want. Type in those keywords. These 3 tools will give you all the long-tail variations. Take the long-tail variations, integrate them in your copy. What people forget is, it's harder to rank for head terms than it is to rank for most long-tail phrases. Head terms have more competition. Long-tail phrases also convert better. Not only is this going to help you get more traffic, but it's also going to help you get more conversions. Once you have those keywords, adjust your content to include them. If the keywords aren't related enough, then don't include them, but pick out of all the other hundreds of keywords that these tools spit out and try to make your content more thorough around the long-tail phrases. And I know, Eric, you've done this a few times. You recently did it earlier this year. What was your traffic increase when you did it?
On adding more, adding more—
Long-tail keywords, yeah, for the head terms. I know you did on one of your articles on Single Grain.
Yeah, so it's been growing by, it continues to grow like 20% month over month.
That's awesome. And it's in a competitive niche because he's in online marketing. Now, when you are updating the content, most people just stuff in the keywords. And you and I both know that if you just stuff in the keywords, the article doesn't flow, it doesn't work well. So what was the process that you used? Because I know you create a process for your team that they can follow so that integrates nicely. And people find the content more valuable versus something that's keyword stuff. But what is the process/framework you use?
So, we talk about this repurposing framework, right? But it's got a couple of different things in it. But I'll talk about that specific article first. What we did with that one was we took things that were out of date in there and we added new paragraphs because it was talking about separate companies, right? And some companies were no longer relevant for that article. So, what we do for my team now is this is a framework we use from Aleyda Solis. It's the content reusage framework. But it doesn't— it's not just about content reusage. It talks about upgrading a piece, when to upgrade it, when to expand it, when to curate it, when to actually convert it or reformat into something else. That's something that's very easy to follow because it's a flowchart. You just simple yes or no. If yes, move on to do this thing. If no, move on to the next one, right? It's very easy to follow. Again, look for the content reusage framework.
Okay.
From a latest show list.
Yeah, and the whole purpose behind this is make sure you're providing value. It's the simplest way to get more search traffic as long as people find whatever you're doing valuable. If they don't, you're not going to do well, but that's really it. It's easy. You don't have to wait a year before you get more search traffic. Do this, you'll rank for more long-tail keywords and you'll find that they'll convert better than the head terms as well.
All right, so that is it for today. But before we go, remember we're trying to get to 1 million downloads a month. We're at about 800,000 a month right now. We need you.
