Eric Siu explains how to identify top marketing talent: create a role scorecard before writing a job description. Define expected outcomes, required competencies, and core values to properly assess whether a candidate is actually an A-player.
Here's how you can find that one A-player marketing that is going to change the trajectory of your business. So I've done this a couple of times in my career. Make sure you do this. You have to not just create a job description, but before you create a job description, you have to create a role scorecard. So a role scorecard will outline the outcomes that you're looking for, the competencies that you're looking for, and also at the very bottom outlining your core values so you can test for those core values. So you want to test for the outcomes, the competencies, and also the core values fit. If you don't have the core values, then forget about all the other ones, right?
