Eric Siu argues that expensive external CEOs often prioritize their own compensation over company success. Founders care more about the business than hired leaders, so mission-driven hiring beats paying for a big name.

What I've noticed is when you try to hire like really expensive people, they don't really care about the company. They care about their salary. Is hiring CEOs overrated now is the question? Yes. No one's going to care more than the founder. I did try to find other CEOs. I don't think anyone cares. It's the same thing with hiring people. It was just finding people who really wanted to be part of our entrepreneurship mission.
