Eric Siu argues the U.S. should revitalize small businesses and local communities instead of chasing corporate consolidation. He compares this to efforts to expand homeownership, saying we need to return to town-square roots and decentralize elite power that he sees as the root of major problems.

In the same way that we saw companies like, let's say, CBRE, Zillow, BiggerPockets create homeownership as the American dream and enable an entire generation to easily access homeownership, that's what I want us to do. And so we are going to do that with American, I hope, small business and maybe business overall. And the real reason I think that's so important is because we've seen all this division in our country, obviously continuously. We've lost a little bit of that town square, right? And I think we were all yearning for it. I think after 2020, we realized, oh my gosh, being stuck in a house by ourselves for months is awful. And we want to come back together in some way, shape, or form. And I'm not sure that the way we're going to come back is in offices and work like we used to. I think it might be in our small towns, in our communities, and getting away from buying really big and going really corporate. I think that's really important. If we don't do this, then we let the people on high run everything. And we've already seen that they can fuck things up pretty royally.
