Eric Siu and a guest debate whether marriage is fundamentally a resource exchange for sexual access. One argues marriage has historically been a major resource-allocation institution, comparing it to prostitution and noting its longevity versus other systems.
So the idea that traditional marriage is not an exchange of resources, protection, and provision for, let's say, sexual access and/or exclusivity is absurd.
It seems like the institution of marriage is going down, the rise of sex work. What's your take on all this stuff?
Well, it's interesting. I was doing a conversation with James Sexton on Soft White Underbelly. He said, what do we call it when we exchange resources for sex? I was obviously reaching for prostitution, and he responded with marriage. So the idea that traditional marriage is not an exchange is absurd. It's one of the fundamental components of traditional marriage. It's probably one of the greatest resource allocation programs in the history of the planet. Like, it beats communism by far because it's existed in far more different parts of the world for far longer. This can be taken to extremes, just like some guys, some players can get lost just in the game and the conquest and the sexual pursuit and the building up of numbers. People can get lost on both sides for different reasons. Yeah.
