Like most entrepreneurs, I grew up unimpressive. I almost got kicked out of high school. I almost got kicked out of college. I wasn't good at sports. I wasn't good at dating, and I wasn't good at fitting in. The one place where I actually felt confident was behind a screen, and that was playing video games at a high level. Counter-Strike, EverQuest, World of Warcraft, Diablo, you name it. A few years after I graduated, I bought a failing marketing agency called Single Grain for $2, but I almost drove it to the ground twice. The main thing is I didn't quit. I kept going. Now I look at things 14 years later, and Single Grain has worked with amazing companies such as Amazon, Airbnb, Salesforce, and more. We've built The Marketing School Podcast, which is a top ten Apple podcast on marketing. We have my YouTube channel with 189k subs. We have our software products, our two software products, ClickFlow and Carrot. So my point of telling you all this is really two things: if you want to become successful, one, you have to keep going. You have to keep on keeping on. Two, you have to stay curious. If you can stay curious and you can keep going, if you stay alive long enough, you will find yourself one day becoming incredibly lucky, and everyone around you is going to wonder how did you get there.
