Eric Siu recounts jumping between jobs to chase opportunities rather than salary, moving from $32,000 to $150,000 and becoming a director by 25. He argues that picking the right opportunity compounds over time in ways a bigger paycheck alone won't.
I changed 6 jobs in the first year. I was making $32,000 a year at my first job, graduated out of UCSD. I went from $55,000 to $75,000. And then when I changed the next year, I went from $75,000 to $150,000. At 25 years old, I was like a director, right? And I had no idea how to manage people. But point is not to brag. It's just to say that it's worth it to not necessarily chase the money, but to chase the opportunity. And that's how you're going to grow, right?
