Eric Siu argues you should give away your content for free to build long-term value. He points to Gary Vaynerchuk's free content strategy, which led to bigger deals like Resy and Empathy Wines, as proof that free work pays off later.
Most of the people you're going to see are arguing that you should not give away your content for free. You should be charging for it. I have a different position. The way I look at it, you know, you can either realize your short-term profits or you can keep deferring and go for long-term gains. If you look at Gary Vee as an example, so Gary Vee gives away all his stuff and what does it afford him? He did that deal with Resy, which sold to American Express. He did Empathy Wines, which was a 9-figure payday for him. So the question again is how long do you want to defer for? Because if you defer for a long time, you're going to get better deal flow and the types of businesses that you're going to create are going to be very different.
