A father of five and other parents challenge the idea that a parent's job is making kids happy. Instead, they say the real role is teaching children the tools to survive. How happy they feel is the child's responsibility, not the parent's.

I was with a group of parents. So one guy's like 60 years old and then he has like 5 kids and then another gal, she has like a 21-year-old. I was like, I don't have any kids, right? But I'm like, I feel like my job is to like help my kid be happy. And they're like, we used to think that too, but that's not true. Our only job now, what we realized after having kids is like to help them survive, like give them the tools they need to survive. And then however happy they are, that's like their problem. I was like, oh, that's interesting perspective.
