A founder recommends James Clavell's Shogun, a novel about a marooned sailor in 1600s Japan caught in political intrigue between warring factions. The sailor never becomes shogun but gets pulled into the drama, and the founder credits the book with teaching him valuable lessons.

Favorite book? There's a book called Shogun, which is by James Clavell. It's a story of this marooned sailor in Japan in 1600 and how he navigates the political intrigue of, you know, these warring factions trying to become shogun. Huh. So he doesn't become a shogun? No, he's just like— he's kind of like a participant, but it's very interesting. It's like I've learned a lot from the book. It's a beautiful book. Okay.
