The BRUTAL End Of OpenClaw VS Perplexity

Eric Siu compares Perplexity Computer to alternatives like OpenClaw and Manus, questioning whether its $200/month Max plan justifies the cost for businesses. He argues self-hosted or enterprise Claude setups may be better for scalable use cases like research and campaign automation.

All right guys, I'm going to tell you why Perplexity Computer is completely overhyped. I mean, I see people talking about it on X. I mean, look at this guy over here. I've been testing Perplexity Computer. I'm super impressed with the product. And look at all the things that it can do for your business over here. You can make subtasks for AI. It runs for hours or months without you. Describe the outcome you want, walk away, it breaks into subtasks and executes them over time. Has real tools built in, browser, file system integrations, no MCP setup, no local config. It's all cloud native. I feel like hiring an AI project manager that coordinates The team of specialists. The main downside is it's only available on the Max plan. Let's start to decode this or deconstruct this bit by bit. Let's just compare Perplexity Computer to one of the Claws. In this case, it could be Open Claw, but there's a lot of new Claws coming out. When you look at Perplexity Computer, I was like, oh, we're introducing voice mode in Perplexity Computer. You can now just talk and do things. You mean I couldn't open up Whisper Flow and just talk to it through Claude or Claude Cowork or Claude Code and just have it do things? Or I couldn't just, you know, remote control from my mobile device and push whatever I'm working on over here to my desktop and vice versa? I can't do that? How is this any different than what else is out there, right? So by the way, don't get me wrong, Manus is a fantastic general agent. It's now owned by Meta. And so for me, I look at this and this is probably Perplexity's response to like OpenCLaw, for example. It's not much different. And here's the thing why I think there's actually a downside here. If you have to pay for the max version of Perplexity, $200 a month, well, why do I need to pay $200 a month for that? And to run all the stuff I run through into the cloud that I'm running all my data through you, if I'm going to hook in all my information to you guys and you guys get compromised, then I get in trouble. I actually cannot run this Perplexity computer. I can't run this for clients versus if I'm on an enterprise version of like a, like a cloud, for example, like Nemo Cloud with NVIDIA. I can run that for clients. I can take the scaffolding that I have. I can then have a forward-deployed marketer helping with that. We can customize it. I can make everything very secure. Okay, I can't do that here because I'm compromising myself. Not only am I paying more, I'm compromising myself by doing this. If I want multiple Perplexity computers, I have to pay $200 a month or so. It starts to get expensive, right? And I get it. Some of you might say, well, you know, that it's maybe cheaper than tokens or whatever. But my whole point here is that maybe if you're new and you don't want to go through the trouble of setting up for like OpenCLAW, I just think that in OpenCLAW, for example, you have way more leeway here. So mine, for example, is set up locally over here. Now, when we think about clients that want access to it, okay, we are thinking about multiple different devices, setting that up for them. And so when you have control of everything end to end and you want to customize it to your abilities and you want to use it for business purposes, I think that's a lot more powerful. The trouble is with a Perplexity computer, you have to go with whatever their integrations are comfortable with, whatever file systems they're comfortable with. And so I don't think it's necessarily anything new. I just think there's a lot of people talking about right now. And I think it's certainly something that you can go out there and you can test. Well, I would just encourage you to test Perplexity computer. You can test OpenCLAW. You can test maybe Claude Code itself. You can test Claude Cowork and you can decide what works for your workflow. I'm going to pull this up over here. When you, when you look at the comments that people have. Okay, exactly. Can it orchestrate a business? No local setup or MCP configs means non-technical people can actually use the full power. Okay, fine. $200 a month is a full— it's a big turnoff. You can see all the objections people have in the comments over here. Perplexity, I pay for it. I pay $20 a month. It's fantastic for doing research, just quick research. I'm happy to do that. All right, let's look at more of these people over here. So let's— this guy, Pepe Moon Boy: People need to realize the power they have at their fingertips with Perplexity Computer. It has completely changed my life, no exaggeration. I now use it for everything— sales prospecting and strategy, financial research, business creation. I'm moving at a speed I never thought was possible. I genuinely feel unstoppable. It's expensive depends on how much you value your time. This is the future. Now you can do all these things. You don't even need to buy like a local setup for your OpenCLAW, for example. You can just set up on your own. Again, you have full control of your own infrastructure. You don't need to be paying the $200 a month for Perplexity computer. All the things that he mentioned over here— sales prospecting, strategy, financial research, business creation. Now I look at everything my CLAW is hooked into. It's hooked into all my goals. It's hooked into all the different products that we have and understands strategy. It understands what my goals are with content marketing. I can do all those things already. Okay, so OpenCLAW is definitely the most powerful but also carries the most risk. Cowork, Perplexity Computer are neck and neck with Computer being slightly more powerful in my opinion. Okay, I would say OpenCLAW is the most powerful, but if you take security into consideration, like with mine, I actually worked with my OpenCLAW. I'm like, okay, we're going to need SOC 2 compliance with the clients that we're talking to, right? The prospects that we're talking to, because if you don't have that, they're not going to sign with you, period. So when I work with it, it's like, hey, you have 70% of what you're looking for. So I would encourage you, if you want the most powerful setup, maybe if you're starting out, maybe go with Perplexity Computer. But if you are looking to build something that's scalable for your business, you're looking to get business revenue, you almost have to have one of the claws, and you have to think about the scaffolding on your own. You can think about security, and again, you can wait for NVIDIA to come out with their Nemo Claw where it takes all that stuff— governance, security— into consideration. So I ultimately think that what a lot of people here are talking about when it comes to Perplexity Computer, all the people, the content creators that you see on X or the people talking about it on YouTube, they are just hyping the latest tool, the latest trend in AI, because they know it's going to get views. Now, I like talking about what actually works. So a lot of the stuff that you see people talking about, it's a lot of it is theater. It's like, oh, I have it, you know, automating my oven where it will remind me when I should check the oven. Why do you need that? Or like it's monitoring bird seeds or whatever. Fine. Okay. If that's what you're into. But if you're looking for something to actually drive business results, I look at all the things we're able to do. Drive a meeting from Google that leads us to speaking at a Google conference or driving, you know, outbound emails to the right people, making multiple inboxes for us, making multiple names. buying the domains for us and putting them all into the right campaign and then reaching out, and then that campaign is actually performing. The whole idea here is that I'm trying to kind of dissuade you from looking at the latest trends in AI and just looking at what actually works and look at real business results. That's, that's what you should be looking for. Hey, quick break. If you're looking to work at an AI-forward company, we are hiring at Single Grain. So Single Grain, we are a tech-enabled marketing services company, and our mission is to be the marketing partner that B2B companies never outgrow. The way we're looking at things right now is we are going hard on tools like Claude Code, and we have different products, Carrot and ClickFlow. And our mission is to hire the best possible people who are very AI-forward, who love to nerd out on marketing, and who want to go into this future. And so it's not going to be an easy thing, but you can check out our careers page by clicking this button over here, or just go to singlebrain.com/careers, and we'll see you on the other side. Okay, now in terms of where to start with this, Look, this guy actually has a good tweet here. OpenCLaw might actually be cooked here. Perplexity Computer just launched and the onboarding already looks much easier than setting up an OpenCLaw. No local setup or environment configs, runs in the cloud, cleaner UI/UX for normal users. Too early to judge, let's see. Here's what I call out: cleaner UI/UX for normal users, no local setup or environment configs. I would say if you are just starting out right now and you want to have some type of general agent, you can go with Manus, which is owned by Meta now. You can go with Perplexity Computer, you can go with GenSpark. And I actually think GenSpark and Manus are both cheaper, so I would go with those first because those can do a lot of the things that you're looking for. You want it to make social media carousels for you, you want it to handle outreach for you, you want it to handle research for you. All these things that people are talking about here, Manus can do, GenSpark can do, okay? And then if you want to move up to Perplexity Computer, you can do that. If you want to try some type of Claude setup, I think that's a nice in-between. And then I think if you really want to take it to the next level with whatever it is that you're doing, Open Claude has the most risk, but you can actually make it the least risky by making sure that you have the strongest setup possible. And there's people that can help you set up Open Claude. Claws. Okay, so and then you can— there's other claws that you can sign up for down the road if you want enterprise setup. Again, Nemo Claw, which is coming out from NVIDIA. And then I think that is your introduction into generalized agents. I would say all these are probably a few steps ahead of like just using ChatGPT or just using Claude, just using Claude Cowork. And you know, I think it's a little different than Claude Code. There's a hierarchy to all this stuff, and maybe I'll cover that in another video. And by the way, if you want more on AI plus business and marketing, because that's what I try to cover— AI plus revenue generation— You got to check out the newsletter. Click on the link below.
