Eric Siu argues that voice notes are lazy. They're easy to send but force the listener to find time and a quiet place to hear them. Text takes more effort to write but respects the reader's schedule.

I hate when people send me voice notes. I'm like, just send me the text so I can read it. Yeah, 'cause it puts more work on the reader, right? But a text message is like equal. Like, actually, no, it's easier for the reader. A voice note puts more work on the person. Text one is easier on the person. Yeah, audio is easier for the person sending it, but then the person reading it's harder. Now text is harder for the person sending it, but easier for the person reading it.
