Welcome to another episode of Marketing School. I'm Eric Siu.
And I'm Neil Patel.
And today we're going to talk about the one Twitter tool you have to use but aren't. What could it be, Neil?
I don't know, what is it, Eric?
It's SparkToro. It's from Rand Fishkin, who's the— who was one of the co-founders of Moz.
There you go. And it does a lot of cool things, like it'll tell you how many of your followers are bots.
Yeah, so I ran it on Neil's and my Twitter accounts, and Neil has, yeah—
20%?
Yeah, Neil has 20% bots that follow him. I have about 13% or so but keep in mind your account has how many followers? I have no idea. 180, let's just call it 180, 180,000, okay? Mine's about 10,500 so it just depends, like, the bigger the account, the more leeway you have for, you know, how many bots you have, right? So, I think their software actually looked at Donald Trump's account and apparently 61% are bots.
Oh, wow.
So, yeah, you know, it is what it is and then the cool thing too is this This Twitter tool, it also shows you like a score, like clout score. Yep. Yep. So, you know, it's free to use, you know, why not use it? Twitter is something I still look at every day. I don't know about you, Neil.
It is. I probably use it like 4 or 5 times a day. I don't put out a ton of tweets like most people, but I more so use it to see what's happening. Funny enough, I find out what's happening in the news quicker on Twitter than I do on, you know, BBC or CNN or any of those news channels.
Yeah. So, I think we both use it as news sources because if it's important, like if it's news-related and it's really important, you're going to see the people that you follow, they're going to start to talk about it. So, it's going to pop up anyways. And the most important things in the world will pop up. And then I make lists of people that I follow. So, I use Twitter a lot and tools like this— Klout's been gone for a while, so using this is helpful. And the other thing about SparkToro is it shows you the latest marketing news too. So, inbound.org is no longer and then GrowthHackers is still around.
Yeah.
SparkToro is another source for you to kind of upvote new trending marketing topics. So if you want to stay up to date on that, you know, you can, you can check it out. So it's Spark, it's S-P-A-R-K Toro, that's T-O-R-O, and it's free to use. So look, if you use Twitter, use it for news. We recommend it. Check it out. Neil, do you have anything else to add?
Yeah. The reason you want to end up using this is it'll help you identify how many real followers you have. The goal with Twitter, whenever you're putting out tweets, is to maximize your engagement. You're not going to be able to maximize your engagement or get a good understanding of where you should be if you don't know how many bots are following you. So when you're comparing your account to someone else's, you can actually look at, hey, how many real followers do I have versus them? And now you'll have a general understanding of where your real number is and what kind of engagement you should be getting versus what you currently are getting.
All right. So that is it for today. And we are working towards wrapping up the end of the year.
